And the Stratocaster will always be flagship instrument from Fender.

No, I think they are somewhat underrated. I also firmly believe that the strat is one of the most brilliant and elegant instruments ever developed and in these terms, I pair it with the piano, keyboards synthesizers and the sax.

Stratocaster>Electric Guitar>Guitar>String Instrument
Synthesizer>Keyboard>Percussion Instrument (why? I don’t know I guess ‘cuase you HIT the keys?)
Saxaphone (what type Soprano, Tenor, Alto?)>saxophone>Woodwind Instrument
Piano (what type? Upright, spinet, baby or concert grand)>Piano>Keyboard>Percussion Instrument

The strat has was an iconoclastic shape when it appeared and has become an icon in its own right, but I don't know if the design is what I would call elegant. Well but then again upon further reflexion, OK it is elegant in a modern rather than classical way.

So much for stream of consciousness. I should be working rather than contributing here, but this is so much more enjoyable.

No, I don't think they are over-rated. I suppose that depends on what we're rating them on though

ya, to be honest i would have to agree with JazzBass=Life. I've owned strats before and while they are good guitars, they haven't impressed me much. Don't get me wrong guys, it was a very influencial guitar but by nowadays standards it's nothing special. I doubt i will get much more than anger out of everyone on this forum because they are all die-hard fender fans but w/e. As far a versitiliy goes, a Tele would be better. If you are looking for more of a metal sound, get humbuckers. If you want a more bluesey sound, get a hollow body. But if you are looking for a guitar that has been copied and upgraded to the point that it has no personality anymore, get a strat

I hear this WAY too often... No, I don't think Strats are overratted. Absolutely not. The reason I play Strats more than other guitars is I find the tones out there to be nearly limitless and individual. When I hear a Les Paul, 90% of the time I hear the same tone. With Strats, I hear so many variations and personal preferences. Reason why so many people play them? They work. 8)

I think that this guy has pretty much summed it up. The tones available from a Strat are so diverse, even more so than a Tele, and I much perfer the body shape and the cosmetics.

When you learn to play the guitar, you'll feel differently. Until then, feel free to repeat things you read on Harmony Central.

But, hey... w/e.
