Is it possible to have an American Series Strat or Standard after 1997 that doesn't have the Delta System? I have a great '05 Butterscotch American Standard Series Strat, which I love, but I have no detent at the 10 setting on the lower tone pot. Nor, do I notice any disinctive tone difference between say 8 or 10. could I just have a bad pot? I understand the bridge pup is slightly hotter in the Delta System also?

This may come as bad news but your '05 AS Strat should have come with the Delta Tone System. You are correct it's on the tone control. Some people think it's on the volume control. There should be a detent when the knob is cranked fully clockwise. It takes the pot and cap out of the circuit. It's about as close to a direct wired pup as you can get. It only applies to the bridge pup and only when the bridge pup is selected alone, ie: by itself. Bridge and middle together are not affected. If you do not feel a detent in your tone knob and you do not hear the bridge pup get slightly louder and brighter when the tone knob is cranked clockwise then I suspect someone has modified the guitar or perhaps it is not really an AS guitar. (the bad news) If you bought it used you may want to take some detailed pics of the guitar and post them here so some of our resident fake experts can have a boo at it.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

John C said only southpaw AS Strats & Teles didn't have the Δ-Tone system.

Thanks for the explaination of the Delta Tone control. Every Tele has something different and it's pretty difficult to make a decision on which to buy with all the little nuances. :)

You could always 'normalize' your controls, it's a relatively easy (and reversible) process.
