I have another Which One...

I'm a couple weeks away from buying a new (use) Strat... I've decided to be a snob and buy an American Strat over Mexican.... But I'm stuck....

American Made Standard for about $650 give or take $20 (dozens to chose)

Or

Warmouth Parts-o-caster with an aged neck, vintage tuners, '62 vintage tremolo, checked body, Malmsteen single coils.... 1st "aged" or "reliced" guitar I've ever seen that actually looked like it was from '62. It has a thick heavy neck that looks like SRV's #1 being almost brown. Appropriate fender decals with the edges being visable like a real vintage strat.... They want $600 at a local 2nd hand shop... Not a big fan of the pickups or the heavly checked body, but the rest is ultra cool.

Which would you choose? Run of the mill, but 100% Fender American, or unique partocaster from Fender authorized after market parts????

I'd try the American Standard first, depending on age, wear
and any other issues, then compare to the other. Good luck!

First, ask yourself if you want it to feel good or just look "cool".

AmStd is what I would say. Your choice ultimately.

I agree too. I am of the belief that anything 'parts' is always worth more to the person that built it... not to a 2nd owner. Go ahead, snob away with the American Std. Then you know what you are getting vs. a Heinz 57. :)

If it were me I would go with the American Standard. Unless the Warmoth Partscaster just feels and sounds better.

Try them all and go with whichever one speaks to you. I have a tough time separating the emotional aspect from guitar purchasing, but I don't think there's anything wrong with that. If the Partscaster makes you happy, go for it. On the other hand, IMO it's tough to go wrong with an American Standard. They're like the Golden Retrievers of electric guitars.

You're talking about two radically different Stratocasters. I know which one I'd want. Nobody knows what you'd want.

If I preferred the Warmoth, I would not be put off by it not being a Fender, and having a little less resale. Anyone half serious about playing shouldn't quibble about a little chump change when choosing his instrument. Get the one that you like and play it.

I totally agree. I own 2 parts-o-casters I had built for myself. I love them. With a good luthier and quality parts it's like owning a custom shop guitar.

Of all of the my guitars, everyone loves my home built Strat the most.

The most important thing is, why are you thinking about buying these guitars? The name, resale value or the way they play?

Things to keep in mind:
1. Your not going to get as much for the Warmoth.
2. If you get the Warmoth, just make sure the neck is in good shape.
3. The Warmoth may have some Fender parts as well as high end after market parts.
