I would love to see pics of your guitar but I don't have a facebook account, really don't want one and I can't seem to get to your pics without getting one. Are they posted somewhere else?

So I've got some more information on my '79 Strat. So it turns out that the Neck is stamped, February 20th, 1980 (birthday tomorrow!). I'm going to pick the guitar up from the shop (new frets) tomorrow. can't wait! :D

A complete fret replacement? I hope your luthier is a good one. It should play great, better than new.

Are you planning on having the body refinished?

730$??? COOL DEAL!!!!

79s Strats go for something around 1500 US$ (about 1100 €) on German eBay!! Mostly in relic condition.

People are crazy! Now that the 60s and early 70s are mostly gone or inaffordable, the end 70s climb up in prices like hell!!

I bought one 76 Strat 5 years ago for 450 €, sold it shortly after purchase for 470€, and now all of a sudden they go for over 1000€!!! (I didn't follow the price devellopment for about 4 years because I was in Africa).

CONGRATULATIONS ON THIS DEAL, MAN!!! :) Especially since the Van Zandts are wayyyy better than the stock pickups those days!!

That's a question I've been pondering. I don't think so. At least not right now.

Yes a complete fret recplacement. The guy who owned it before me played the guitar to death. Everything about the instrument says, "Blood, sweet and blues."

I've just signed up for photo bucket and hope this works. If it doesn't, than would someone educate me on attaching photos to this lounge.

That it is very nice looking strat 8) Its amazing that such as nice looking body was ever painted oly white, as they usually save the bodies like that for the natural or sunburst finishes!

According to a website I use, all Strats from this time period were ash. So they should all look good. I'm thinking that they pained this one because grain pattern isn't clean and even.

Unlike my 04 Anniversary American Series Strat (which is made of 3 pieces of ash, but it's hard to find where they are joined) the '79 has distinct seams.

Thanks for you comments. The pictures really don't do the guitar justice.

Yes I think you are right about the factory natural finishes having less distinct seams. I have a 79 in natural and it is harder to see where the joins are. But even with the visible seams your strat looks cool 8)

Yes! Time to acknowledge those who select wood pieces and create these magnificant bodies. Painted bodies are often made of several pieces without concern for matching the grain...not so for unpainted finishes - they really do a great job of making something that is worthy of being hung on a wall and admired.

I read somewhere(?) that you can find ash bodies with awsome grain under paint as sometimes 'burst finishes don't work out, so they were painted rather than stripped down for another attempt...

Mine is natural, and there is actually a seam running between the two tone controls, but it is impossible to notice from front or back...you need to look at the edge to find the grain mis-match.
