thanks for all the replies folks.

i'm not looking for a shredder neck, i've kinda got a couple of those, it's not really my style. my #1 is a MIJ from the late 80's and i believe it has a 'u' shape w/ those tiny vintage frets, which i'm used to, but i've also got an MIM that i really like the neck on - feels thinner. i think it's a 'modern c' - i've got short & fat fingers, and tend to wrap my thumb over the top - not ideal i know. like someone said, just need to play a bunch of different ones, suggestions help as well -
thx

Audition a Clapton for the neck shape. See if it's for you. If so, perhaps you can find one used.

i'll give the clapton a run. leaning towards rosewood tho as my other strat is maple. test drove the 50's & 60's road worn today. nice necks on both, but the bigger frets on the 60's were nice.

-edit to add - might have to go north of the $750 mark to find what i'm looking for.

finally got to a gc & tried the clapton yesterday. neck pretty nice, the mid hump of the 'v' is a little too pronounced for me - the lack of 'shoulders' on the neck is nice tho. close, but not it.

also played an am standard, neck was definitely skinnier then my mij, felt slimmer then my mim too. the quest goes on, the list of requirements for my next strat is growing...

thx for all the info guys

Try to find a '57VHR. Slimmer than the standard v-neck but not as sleek as the Clapton.
