I hate the nut that Gibson uses as well as the fact that they don't let their guitars cure.

I special ordered a Custom Shop ES 336 in Natural back in 2005. Took months longer that I was told to get it and when I did get it the finish was so soft that it marked every time it was touched in one area for a short period of time. I places it on a guitar stand for 20 minutes, picked it up and there was a big dull mark in the center of the back from the rubber cushion on the stand. I ended up buffing it out in a few areas more than once. I finally left it in the case for a a long time and the finish finally cured out..... So Paris, you are RIGHTO.....

Ya, i had that same thought unless we were going to somehow entertain Gibson bashing. Truth is I like many of my Gibsons, BUT, this is a FENDER FORUM!!!!!

An update: So I had the nut replaced with bone and it stays in a little better. I kind of believe that the six on a side style of head stocks does not allow the B or G strings to stay in tune very well when there is a lot of bending.

 I have owned several guitars from several brands and no matter how much money and what brand they were THEY ALL had quality control issues, from minor to major. Truth be told to supply the demand that we players have there will always be issues. HUMANS inspect them and say A O.K. The only way to stop them is have every one inspected by a robot  of course some of you would be unhappy when the tiny mark the robots make when inspecting the guitars is found. :D

Regardless of whether its a guitar, a car or whatever, if one is critically looking for deficiencies, one surely will find them. I've always operated under the premise that there is nothing made directly or indirectly by human hands which shall or can be, truly perfect. Therefore and by necessity, inherent deficiencies in varying degrees will automatically exist. Of course, these varying degrees have subjective leeway in terms of what said one prioritizes as significant all the way to irrelevant.

On a side (and related) note, IIRC, bashing of other brands are against Fender Forum rules. So, here's the opposite and food for thought: Lots of people bash (among other brands) Gibson QC. Having said this, who honestly in their right mind would turn down ownership of a Gibson Les Paul, SG, ES-335 or whatever model if it was simply handed to us? Rather and realistically, any and all would dive on the opportunity where guaranteed, the joyous recipient wouldn't be finding a whole lot wrong with it.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

Yeah, I made my comb into a kazoo and the edges of the paper weren't straight.

What, poor QC among kazoos? What is needed is immediate, "Infallible Web Dogma" not only bashing kazoos at large, but combs and paper as well!!

I don't call it bashing if you objectively state QC problems you see with a brand . I've seen people making blanket statements that Fenders suck on the Gibson forum and vice versa. I have seen first hand some pretty bad cases of QC in Gibson products. One instance is a jammingbuddy of mine who spent over $3000 for a brand new Les Paul in 2009 and has nothing but trouble with it since, mostly to do with tuning issues. He has brought it back to the dealer countless times to have it remedied.Dispite urging from everyone who knows him for him to demand a replacement but he won't do it simply for the reason it's hs first Gibson that he'd always dreamed of.

I have 6 Epiphones and I have yet to have any issues with any of them.A lot of people who once swore by Gibson have gravitated to Epiphone and as a matter of fact the absolute best Les Paul I ever played was an Epiphone 1959 Tribute Reissue.Gibson had a hard time getting it's reputation for quality after the Norlin years and now it seems that under the guidance of Henry J. Juszkiewicz they are slipping again as he appears to be more interested with R&D of new robot models than dealing with issues with current brand

Granted a lot of the criticism of Gibson is unfounded but it appears to be universally accepted as true that a lot of their QC problems in recent years are quite real.

True, Epiphones are quality instruments. My Les paul plain top plays as good as my gibby. I had a chance to veiw the new colors that Epiphone has revamped and I must say if the headstock wasn't showing,to the untrained eye, you couldn't tell the difference between the Gibson or the Epiphone.

I was looking at a Gibson SG and an Epiphone G400 (Vintage?). The Epi played well and also looked like a Gibson if you didn't notice the headstock. The Gibson that I played
is how much? I could buy either, but truth be told, the Epi is a bargain and felt better, to me. 8)
