I would like to know the guitar setup of the original Sultans of Swing, from the first album of Dire Straits.

How to set up the tones, volume and the singles?

Thanks in advance!

There's not much to it. A strat, pickup position 2, a loud clean amp some reverb. A Twin cranked up, not much breakup does it perfectly. Most of that tone comes from the fingerstyle he uses.

Which is the position 2? Closer to head or closer to my feet?

Pickup position 2 is when the pickup selector switch is set to use both the bridge and middle pickup. It gives that famous Fender chime.

TECHNICALLY YOUR ARE CORRECT. THE RESPONDER IS LIKELY CALLING '4' THE #2 'in-BETWEEN" POSITION.

THE OTHER RESPONDENT'S OBSERVATIONS ABOUT FINGER-STYLE PLAYING IS EQUALLY VALID. THE TONE OF A PLUCKED STRING IS A TOTAL DIFFERENT BREED OF CAT AND THE QUESTIONER HAD BETTER HAVE HIS ARPEGGIOS DIMED!!

OK, let's forget about numbers:

Which position Mark Knopfler used in Sultans of Swing (studio)?

Bridge
Bridge + Middle
Middle
Neck + Middle
Neck

I am waiting some answer. I can't understand numbers of pick ups...

Thats the way I see it too and that was what I was trying to tell the person. As far as I know, Fender actually said that song was the best example of position 2 tone they'd ever heard.

Mark Knopfler used his "jurassic strat" the red one ,in #2 position
a Kelly amp and a roland jc 120 for the chorus and reverb the rest was his fingers!!!!
Man I love that song!!!
