Thanks John! I have always respected your knowledge of Fender guitars. I was thinking you worked for or still work for Fender?

No, I don't currently and have never worked for Fender. I'm a marketing researcher by trade, and tend to have good recall of things I'm very interested in - which helps in the job.

However, Fender (and Fender-style) guitars are a passion of mine so I've researched them. I started in the 1980s; I really screwed up by not picking up a '67 Strat that had 70s-style black plastic parts on it (but the original parts were in the case) back in 1985 for about $500 because I thought that was just too much for an old one that wasn't pre-CBS. When the same guitar showed up at a different shop with the original plastic back on it for $800 I knew I had made a mistake monitarily. However, in talking to the more knowlegeable guys at the second store (which was more of a vintage dealer; I had first seen the guitar at the local dealer of new Fenders) I discovered that (at that time) these 1966-1967 big headstock Strats were key "players" guitars that weren't quite "vintage" (again, at that time in 1985). Since then I've made it a mission to learn everything I can about them.

I've also done a lot of research on F-style guitars from small builders as well.

Unbelievable job! This beauty came back from the dead just like the phoenix emerging from the Firestorm. Great work X!

I know if we want to get historical, most of could kick ourselves all over the place. Who would have thought those 60- and 70 guitars in the early 80s might some day worth a lot as a collectors piece! The stories i could tell and it even now prevents me from selling some of my guitars. When I worked at a music store in 1974 a guy traded me a 1964-5 Strat that was all in pieces. I gave to to my dad who knew a really old guy (must have been over 50  !!!!) who re-did the natural finish, crowned and polished the frets and put it all back together so it played wonderful. Dumb me traded it off 6 weeks later.........one of several stories... But I appreciate you sharing yours! Know it confirms me that a few guitars I have will stay tucked away and gently played for a long time to come!

If I find a body with that paint job on it, I am definately picking it up. Your guitar looks awesome.

These are pretty hard to find. A few have been popping up on eBay from time to time. Prices keep going up!

Fantastic work Jeff!
Hadn't seen this thread until now and read thru it all.
Beautiful finish too. Had never seen or heard of that before...but then I learn a lot from your threads on some of the obscure stuff. Well at least to me they are!

Thanks.

The one in the middle was purchased off ebay from tenstarguitars.

When it arrived, I was called.

I still smelled like fresh paint. I could'nt believe it. A fake "firestorm" Finish.

I am sure everyone can see the difference.

I was very upset when I saw a obvious fake strat ultra in the firestorm finish sell on ebay for over $2400.00.

I will now post several pictures of this fake firestorm strat body.

Notice how similar it is to the one pictured on this thread.
And also how much it looks like the icestorm on a different website.

Something is definitly wrong here.

lets let the fender community be the judge.

Remember, The body received smelled like fresh paint.
