recently i've bought a USA fender stratocaster.

It has quite unusual specifications: 21 fret like on the vintage models but it's tie bolt hole is placed at the head of the fretboard. i have attached the photo

so please tell me what type of model is this? is this vintage or standart or maybe it's fake?

btw sorry for bad photo quality

Good eye martynrss2!

Hi andrew_mk,

Definitely not a Fender neck. The guitar is a stone cold fake!

Some signs that is is a fake:

21-fret neck when a 1999 American Standard should have 22 frets, butterfly string trees instead of roller string trees, the area around the opening for the truss rod adjustment is maple when it should be a walnut plug with a fairly small opening, and the decal looks kind of see-through when it should be gold - but that might be my monitor. The decal just looks a bit off - it's a decent forgery. The bridge should be a 2-post trem with cast saddles and this has a 6-screw trem with bent saddles.

I'm no expert on fakes but, the first thing i thought was, the headstock does not look right also, the truss rod hole did not have the walnut plug/insert.

i have one last question

could it be a neck from non-american (mb mexico or japan) fender or even squier with fake serial number and logo?

or it has nothing in common with any of fender guitars at all?

Definitely not Mex or Japan or US for the neck, maybe an aftermarket neck. I doubt if it is even a Squier neck due to the odd shape of the headstock. The neck heel might have some identifying marks or sticker to help identify it. The bridge and body could be from a Squier or other guitar, would have to see the underside of the pick guard and body routing, and the neck pocket. The saddles look like the block saddles used on the Squier, but not real clear in the pics.
