Hi Everyone,

I bought a new American deluxe Telecaster earlier this year that I'm struggling to bond with. I've struck up a deal with a very reputable guy that I've done deals with before for a 1991 Strat Plus. The Strat is fitted with the Gold Lace Sensor pickups, Wilkinson roller nut, hipshot trem setter and locking tuners. It's finished in pewter with a rosewood fretboard. He says the Guitar is like new and it sounds incredible to me. I've been looking at a few videos on Youtube and some online reviews and this looks like an incredible Guitar. Also, in about 20 years, this guitar will be classified as being vintage, it's already 21 years old now.

I would love to get some feedback from those of you who have had experience with these Guitars. I think this is a great deal. I'm trading a Tele I don't want and never play for another Strat which have always been my number one guitars.
Thanks!

My '91 Plus is my main guitar, although it's not quite standard!

Lace Sensors are long gone, now has a CS Texas Special in the neck, Duncan Alnico Pro in the middle and Duncan SSL-5 in the bridge, with master tone with switchable cap values. Tremsetter also went in the cupboard, can't stand them.

Can't beat the combination of the locking tuners and the big Wilkinson nut for stability and ease of restringing, just be wary if you use string gauges bigger than 10-46, as you'll probably have to change the nut.

I have a 1988 Pewter Strat Plus with a rosewood board and it's a great guitar. Mine is all stock, I really like the Lace Sensor Pickups and have had about 10 guitars with them in them, most of them being Plus models.

I haven't played a Tele Deluxe so don't know how they stack up.

Sounds very like the one I'm getting. This could become the ideal Guitar for me which the Tele isn't. Even though there may be a difference in value between the Guitars, this doesn't matter to me as I'm looking for the Guitar that is right for me and money isn't a factor. This Strat Plus, even though it is 21 years old, looks like it came out of the factory yesterday. You can't put a price on this Guitar becoming your number 1.

I can tell you hand down the Strat Plus will be a big improvement over the Tele Deluxe. I mean Teles are great instruments and it would be cool to have both a Tele and a Strat, as the Tele leans toward those cool Tele bends and bridge tones. But the Plus with the TBX and the bridge pickup can get some tones close to that Tele bite, plus (no pun intended!) the Plus has all those cool Strat tones, that very few other guitars can get. The neck pickup will be wonderfully rich and full, like a vintage Strat. Nice modern C shape neck with medium-jumbo frets with a radius of 9.50. I have a lot of Teles, and love them, but always go back to my Start Plus'! Check my website below for more info.

Bad news I'm afraid. The guy with the Strat plus pulled out of the deal. I went ahead and sealed the deal on a 2005 mint American Standard Strat with a Candy Apple Red finish and rosewood fretboard. I withheld the Fender case, all the case candy and the strap locks that came with the Tele to bridge the value gap between the two Guitars. I'm very happy with this guitar. It reminds me of the Strat that Andy Summers plays. Lovely!
