Alright. I have my V847 opened up. Following the thread here but having problems with the practical side of adjusting the pot. I see all of the working bits and the electronics, but I am a total novice with more enthusiasm than skill. So, anyone care to tell me how to adjust the pot? I see the plastic sprocket and complimentary plastic toothed lever which turns the pot, but it doesn't look like there is any room for movement in either. Someone dumb it down for me?

"Ever notice Crash-3 has a 10 hole pickguard?"

Is that significant? My '88 has an 11 hole pickguard. You made me count with that comment. I remember when I first got my strat and I thought the pickguard vibrated almost to distraction. So I can't imagine a pickguard with fewer holes. Hmmm...

It was just something I noticed. Clapton sig strats are 8 hole normally strats have 11 or 8. This one just happened to have 10.

Both Crash-3 and 10th Ann. Antigua Customs were available with an 11-hole guard.

I have both the Vox V847 and the Dunlop Crybaby Classic.

The Vox is more transparent, brighter, more penetrating.

The Crybaby is deeper, darker, more bluesy.

Both are unmodded.

I'm keeping both. But if you put a gun to my head and told me to get rid of one, I guess I'd lose the Vox. It's noisier because it isn't true bypass (which I know is easily 'fixable') and it does weird things to my fuzz.

But I like both. The Crybaby is my funky black brick. The Vox is my screamer.

I had an 80's Dunlop that was stolen. It was the cheap one without a battery. You had to take the whole bottom plate to change the battery. I loved that one, was gonna get another one off ebay. But I decided to experiment, and chose a Dunlop JH-1B. The chrome Jimi Hendrix wah. I don't think it's real close to his wah sound, but it is very interesting. Very vocal wah, with a short sweep. No ear splitting highs. It has taken some time to get used to it, even though I haven't played it much yet. Check reviews and go to your local guitar store to try out all that they have. Never tried a Vox, but I plan to. Would like to have 2 wahs on my board. Just sounds cewl!

Eric Clapton used a Dunlop Jimi Hendrix wah for the Cream reunion tours in 2005.

I have owned the dunlop jimi hendrix wah wah pedal and the Vox v847a. I have to admit, even though the vox was half the price, it completely blew away the dunlop one. The range of the Vox is much more which really gives you more of the "wah wah" sound than the dunlop one. Trust me on this one, don't waste your money with a buddha or a dunlop crybaby, Vox is the only way to go.

I wouldn't say "don't waste your money". But it is a good idea to take your guitar to the retailer and try out all the wahs there.

I don't have the wah pictured above, this is the one that I have:

That one is the JH-1D, mine is the JH-1B. There are differences, although I haven't played the other one, only the one that is labeled the original crybaby.

Would still like to know how those of you with Vox847s are increasing the ranges or modding them in any way. I like my Vox and had a Dunlop a few years back, but never considered modding either if them until this forum. Pray, tell.

I have both Vox and Dunlop Cry Baby wahs but the Vox has the edge over the Dunlop in every way.The Fulltone Clyde wah is also a great pedal.
