Hey guys, I am planning on putting together a parts guitar from a strat copy body that i was given and a pair of EMG HB's.

The guitar body, which remains unpainted, has a small hairline crack coming out of the hole where the strap pin will go at the bottom of the guitar. Should I just paint over it or will it cause problems in the future. I see way of gluing it as the crack is very thin.

I will TRY (emphasis) to get some pics of this but I'm not sure that my camera will be able to capture the crack.

Picture is not good.

Better to put some glue like carpenter/wood glue. Mix with water to easy go in the crack. Painting over won't fill the crack.

That pic is actually my sig pic (i should be skinnier, I know)

I guess what I meant was, If I dont fill it with glue, and just paint over it, is there a reasonable chance that, when I put the strap pin in, the crack will get worse and the strap pin will get loose?

We need more information, see this crack.. It is a problem for you to put some glue. You don't know how to ? If the strap pin is in the crak, yes it could get loose

And what about a photo of the crack ?

Hi Patcha1993: without seeing it, who knows?

But one thing we do know about cracks. They never get smaller, but they sometimes get bigger. And putting a strap button screw in there is only going to take it in one direction.

I don't sound good...

Cheers - C

IF you glue it well, I doubt you will have a problem. If it is very tiny, and you are going to paint the body a solid color anyways, then just drill out the old strap pin hole, including the crack, with a large drill bit. Then glue in a hardwood dowel, trim it flush and sand it smooth. Paint your body, then drill a new hole :) That's what I would do ;)

Need to ensure the body is hydrated properly e.g. has it dried out or did this come from a bad strap button installation?

For a small crack if your painting it and you cannot clamp then you can use a thin slow setting super glue using the absorb method where you apply/reapply small amounts into the area and let it absorb well into the wood and dry. When you have a good penetration finally hit the last bit with accelerator. Should become rock hard in that area provided the cracks small enough. Drill out your hole again if required correctly and to the right depth and use some wax on the screw if required.
