Good idea stratele52

I will have to check into it some more, because I have lived here for 12 years and only recently noticed it with my newest amp.

You should read "kind of noise " not king

I don't use copper tape, foil, what ever for shielding. I always use an anti EMR paint, sometimes called "radar paint". It blocks electromagnetic radiation more effectively than a copper "patchwork quilt" and does not add any capacitance. It is basically carbon held in suspension, incredibly messy (don't get it on anything!) but very effective.

Shield black paint easier and look nice.

Hi steve-strat,

Is that the same stuff that Fender uses on some of their models? It sounds like something that I would like to try, even though the pups are still unshielded.

Just checked my amps this morning, and they are much more quiet than last night, not a particular amp, but all. There is still a little noise, more than weekday mornings, but less than it has in the afternoon/evening. My newest amp is the quietest of all to begin with, so that's probably why I noticed it with that one. It could be something that the guitar picks up, or something in the power line (same on any outlet tried). I have heard radio stations and truck drivers through my amps before in other locations, so it could be some kind of radio interference picked up by the guitar or cable. Maybe it's HARRP, and they only use it later in the day?

That I don't honestly know, could be the same or similar? I do quite a bit of work on guitars and have built up some very good contacts around the world, including the guy who built Blackmore's Strats in the '70s/early '80s. He swears by anti EMR paint, I have always used it on his recommendation and never had any problems.

It is available from most good guitar shops, such as Stewmac in the States but, if I remember correctly, it is classed as a hazardous substance and as such there are international shipping restrictions? For some reason it is not so readily obtainable in the UK unless you want to pay a ridiculous price for a tiny pot on Ebay but I found a very reasonably priced source in the UK, I'm not sure about the forum's policy about posting links though?

Thanks steve-strat

Posting links is OK, it's the self-promoting and selling that is prohibited. So, as long as you aren't selling something, links are allowed.

OK then, anybody after a source of reasonably priced shielding paint in the UK I fully recommend this http://electrosmogshielding.co.uk/product.asp?P_ID=480&CAT_ID=102. Much better than getting ripped off for the tiny pots available on Ebay.
