uhm, depends on what you plan on using the guitar for... if its just practicing and such, most likely no, but for gigs and such, possibly..... the only real way to is to play both guitars and see if you feel it is worth the extra money... there is an obvious jump in quality and parts, but if its worth 600 is for you to decide

I agree that it really depends on what you want to use it for. Go with the mexican version if you want to use it for swatting flies or maybe you need a paddle for your kayak. If you want music that people are willing to hear you play, then pay the extra bucks and go American.
I don't know about you but I plan on NEVER parting with any of my guitars ...EVER. It's why I spent the extra bucks on great sound.

They are both great values but if you've got the dough, go for the American... it will hold its' value better too!

Standard American is Better that Standard Mexico. However it's my Opinion that Mexican Deluxe and Artist are better than American Standards.

Good point! The Deluxe Player's Strat and the Jimmie Vaughan sig models are great MIM axes. I have the Am Dlx... totally sold on the SCN pups and S-1 switch on the Am Dlx!

As others have said, the high end MIM strats are great and are better than some of the low end American Strats.
At that price point (the high end MIM) you really have the choice of a retro style MIM (tinted neck, old style saddles and such) with mostly american parts (neck and pickups as well I think) or an American modern style (satin finish neck and modern style saddles etc.). If you want a retro style American strat it's going to cost twice as much.

My ONLY problem with my MIM 50's Player is that I don't like the MIM string spacing (a tad narrow for the bridge pickup)

You could be right here! I too, have an '05 MIM deluxe player that is easier to play and sounds better than my '04 American strat that cost nearly twice as much! Of course, with the new '08 Americans, I'd venture to say that all has now changed.

I think my next strat will be the Jimmy Vaughn.

Yes, the MIA strats are worth the extra money over a MIM. The quality that goes into them is far superior to the Mexican ones IMO. The neck on the MIA's are amazing!

In can vouch for the neck as well... I have the Am Dlx Strat and the fit and finish is unbelievable. This guitar is a great work of art i it's self. The neck is superb in terms of fret and nut polish.

All the American strats that I've bought have had a coat of lacquer on the frets that is a real pita to remove.

I hope Fender has fixed that with the new '08. I have an engineering degree and dreamed up a production method that would fix this in a cost effective manor but alas... I'm just a guitar junkie! LOL
