okay so I want doing some more in depth inspection on my new special and found this rather odd.

At first I thought it was a stripped nut but looking further into it, I cant even positively make out anything metal! And if that is the nut then it must have been sitting in sea water for a couple years...

Doesn't look "normal" to me based on the photos. :?:

What year is this?

Does any allen wrench fit in it? It appears that the normally hex shaped cavity has become profoundly round. Back to the store.

Take it back.....You can tell somebody has adjusted it at one time or another and did a louzy job ,cause they tweaked the walnut plug as you can see in the photo. The walnut does not look clean and round at the opening,it appears as though somebody was not careful with the allen wrench and kinda grinded the wood a little there. If it was mine....it would go back.Also...why does the nut look all funky and discolored in that first picture? Is it just dust? It almost looks nicotine stained.
my .02 ...good luck bro

an allen wrench fits in the hole, but there is no nut. That's either glue or chunks of what's left of a nut but either way it's not even a full consistent ring of whatever it is.

Hey, good eye on that messed up walnut plug. The guitar definitely had a run'in with an idiot. Let's just hope the store 'fesses up on it. Keep us posted?

meshhead, are we all on the same page here...there is no "nut" on a Fender guitar for adjusting the truss rod. Only an allen. Does the allen fit snugly in there? Can it turn to adjust the truss rod?

If your guitar came with an allen wrench, let's not assume that it's a particularly good fit, as Fender often includes a wrench with a sub par fit. If the wrench doesn't fit securely and snugly, best to try another wrench. Good excuse to buy a complete set if you don't have one.

You are right , no real nut but an Allen bolt head .But problem is the same : Head look damaged.

Fender allen wrench are most of the time (always ? ) cheap and could damaged the head. Buy good american made or import allen wrench that fit tight.
