Hi,

I'd like to replace my current HSS config with SSS (Texas custom specials). Currently I have a 2010 American Deluxe with N3's. Does anyone have any wiring diagrams or tips as to how to wire this?

Thanks.

Here is a picture.

So I'm assuming this (pls correct me if I'm wrong)

- Greens/Blacks are both grounds
- White (Neck), Blue (Middle), Red/White (Humbucker) are the hot wires

Custom Texas pup's just have the white/black (hot/ground) wires.

How do I wire up the bridge pup (formerly the humbucker)? Can I just connect the green/black wires together as ground and connect the red/white wires feeding the humbucker together to connect to the bridge custom texas pups?

Thank you I'll give those a shot. Will I have to change pots for the humbucker?

So I'm in the midst of replacing these pup's/pickguard.

Basically I've been just tracing the hot/ground wires of each single coil N3 pup and replacing the hot's (white/blue) with the Texas hots (white).

Now I'm stuck with the humbucker. What are the purposes of the red/green/black/white wires? Is the green/black ground where the red/white are hot? How would I replace the humbucker with the single Texas bridge pup?

(So basically I think I'm just keeping the S1-Switching system)

Hey there hope all is well.
I have had some experience with the S1 and SCNs and possibly the N3s (excluding the bypass) are wired in a similar manner although I have yet to check these out.
You will encounter two problems.
1. The setup requires the mid pickup to be similar in polarity and phase to the neck. If not you will get some strange out of phase sounds using the S1 although this may be what you are after. The custom shop texas special mid is RWRP. You can check the polarity of the N3s and the texas specials with a compass. i.e. if the compass is placed near the pickup poles it will point either north or south.
2. The hss wiring is different than the standard sss S1 wiring. This is to allow the separation of the coils in the bucker to enable coil splitting etc.
As mentioned these thoughts relate to the SCN configuration.
I'd recommend leaving the current wiring intact. Buy an S1 switch and some pots and start another from scratch then just place this and three in phase pickups into the guard and wire as per the fender deluxe sss 2004 diagram.
If you want to use all 3 texas specials use the wiring diagrams the guys have kindly supplied above without the S1.
Sell the N3 configuration to recoup any loss or store it and fit it to the strat if you decide to sell it later.
Another option is put the bridge texas in the mid and leave the humbucker where it is but I'm not sure how this would pan out. On the SCN model the two scns were extra hot to match the humbucker.
Hope this helps. :D

Hmm.. ok thanks guys.

I'm thinking maybe I'll just scrap the whole S1 switching and re-wire the three single coils according to diagrams provided above.

I can keep the same pots and stuff right? I'd rather not purchase a new set of pots....

Existing pots should be fine. Lets us know how they sound compared to your n3 pups.

Quick update:

Just wired everything according to the diagrams provided above. No S1-Switching. Replaced new pick guard, kept the same pots.

Good news: Wiring went fine. Tested the pup's with the tapping each pole at each position. Pop was heard as expected at each position.

Bad news: Pick guard doesn't fit!!! I bought the Fender Tortoise Shell pick guard at my local guitar shop expecting it to fit, but it doesn't... It's not just the holes mis-aligning, but the actual shape is just a bit off. I had no idea that the Am deluxe was different in shape than the standard... I think I may just end up modifying the pick-guard as well, sigh.
