Only thing we got in my area is a couple of guitar centers neither carry any of the v necks or reissues in stock. That deluxe v neck in black has always interested me.
I have never seen a clapton or beck on the wall either. Just standards and deluxes.

Not to find at least an Artist Series Clapton in a Guitar Center store is quite surprising. In some locations you have to sight up near the ceiling and look for the signature on the headstock. Their necks are almost bleached white, as well.

For the Eric Johnson sig strat, I've heard some say the neck is a soft V near the first fret and gradually changes into more of a "C" shape. Is this true or is it just your standard '57 soft V shape?

I played one once, long ago, and I'd have to revisit that guitar again to be fair. It also has a flatter radius [12] as opposed to the more common 9.5, or the vintage 7.5.

I recently took a factory tour (highly recommend it to anyone who gets a chance) and there had to be over 50 neck templates. We also got a chance to watch the necks being sanded by hand, as others have mentioned they will all vary slightly even amongst the same style.

Many of us are familiar with the peg board which hangs all those master blanks.

It is quite cool to see in person.

As others have said, you gotta play different necks and see which one feels best to you. A person might be a huge fan of a particular player......say Clapton for example......but that doesn't mean the person will love the V shaped profile on the Clapton signature guitar. It's really nothing that you can figure out without actually playing the necks. You gotta play 'em to know what you like.
