Actually you want rewiring your guitar in the same fashion as the Master Built EC Customs....

That's right, as I say I do't want to restring it again at the moment.

You do not need a new wiring diagram.

Just get rid of the TBX and use a 250K "No Load" tone pot instead.

Follow the wiring instructions as usual.

What does restringing have to do with anything?

As far as replacing the TBX pot with a conventional tone pot, since the TBX control is self contained and independent of the midrange boost, I would think you could simply pull it out and replace it with a conventionally wired tone pot.

In order to replace the pots you should remove the pickguard first.

After installing the new tone pot you have to remount the pickguard and restring your guitar with a fresh set of strings (recommended) - it's normal, you cannot make omelette without breaking eggs.

I see I have caused confusion: I am building a new Strat.
I want to include the mid boost circuit but without TBX.
I have a TK built guitar without TBX.
I don't want to chop the new strings - to lift the pick guard - to look at the wiring when I know that you guys will have the answer, which you have supplied.

Many thanks to all :D

Howdy!

That should save you having to chop your strings off!

Enjoy!

What's the big deal? I remove my pickguard all the time without removing the strings unless I planned to replace them anyway. I just slacken them enough (I have locking tuners. If you don't, just hold them in place with a capo at the first fret.) and the pickguard slides right out from under the strings, do what I need to do, replace the pickguard and tune back up. Never had a problem.

the TBX was removed from his personal guitars because he was apparently not satisfied with the circuit (he found the sound too mushy).

i did that to my e.c. strat with a 250k audio pot and it is way better than the tbx. it is deffinately warmer and if you need more trebble just turn it up a bit. i run my amp fairly bright and this guitar set up works great. i usualy run my tone at about 5-7 and add boost as nessisary. e.c. strats are the most versitile guitars made. i can even get the joe satriani fred tone with the boost at 10 and the tone at 3 and the selector in the bridge and neck position. i love it.

I converted my MiM Strat with the active mid-boost and VN's a while back and really didn't like the TBX with the VN's, so I put a regular 250K in and it was much better. After I got a 'proper' '97 EC Strat with Laces the TBX totally makes sense. So good in fact that I put Laces into the MiM along with the old TBX and man does it sound good. IMHO really depends on the pickups, how it all interacts and what you personally are looking for.
