I have a MIM standard that I acquired through a trade. Its brown burst with a black pickgaurd and a maple neck- all stock hardware and pickups and it’s practically brand new. There are plenty of things I want to do as far as mods go, but I’m seeking opinions, and have questions on specifics because I generally play LP’s, but am starting to get into strats for versatility. So I don’t know a lot about Fenders yet.

I am going to equip the guitar with the custom 69 fender pickups, I have heard them and they seem to be what I am looking for as far as sound/tone go (the jimi era). I hate the ceramic pups on it now. I notice the American Standards have different tuners, saddles etc etc. Can anyone tell me if the fender standard stock hardware is crap, and I should upgrade or if it even makes a difference- and if I do replace the tuners saddles trem ,what difference it will make tone and play wise. I was also thinking of putting a bone nut on the neck as well. I’ll use Size 10 or 11 strings for more tone and a nice setup from a shop here in town to top everything off. I have read most every opinion on here about Mexican strats. Personally I like the feel of this guitar, and though I’m sure an American is better overall quality….I think once my mods are in place…there shouldn’t be much difference- at least to me. Suggestions welcomed. PLEASE. I need specifics. Thanks!!

I would look into the Callaham parts, expecially upgrading the block:

Upgrading the block improved my MIM strat sound a lot.

Don't go too heavy on the strings since your used to a LP. The longer scale will already make bending a tad more stiff. I personally don't think heavy=better tone.

More sustain mostly. I think it also gave me a bit more harmonics, but that is harder to quantify.
