Your guitar was made at the
Fuji-gen Plant (for Fender Japan), Japan
in the Year(s): 1986 - 1987

I have no idea what these were really called by Fender, but they were only made for about a year or so at the end of the 1980s. I suppose they were supposed to be a more "traditional feeling" alternative to the HM Strats as the hardware (Kahler Spyder trem, pickups, etc.) was similar but it was a normal-sized body and a regular 22-fret neck (the HMs had a downsized body and a 24-fret neck plus I believe they were 25.1" scale instead of 25.5" but I could be wrong on the scale length).

This guitar has been modded - it has Ultrasonic Reference pickups instead of the regular pickups (2 Fender single coils and a DiMarzio humbucker were standard); also it has a second tone control added, the stock ones had a single TBX tone control and had a coil splitter mini-toggle where the second tone control is normally located.

This is one of those really odd guitars - it has all the hallmarks of an MIJ guitar but there is no country of origin on them anywhere - you can't count that neck plate that says "Fender USA". I've seen that beveled "Fender USA" on HM Strats and HRR Strats that were also clearly marked "Made in Japan"; I guess Fender just shipped those beveled neck plates out to Fujigen, who was their supplier back then.

Hey there. My best guess about the country of origin is that it was a non export Japanese Fender before the fancy modifications. I guess it was made for Japanese use and sold privately out of the country, and that this is the reason for the lack of MIJ or CIJ signature at the back on the neck.

I think John C and Son Chi are right on. Like many of the Non-Export MIJs, it probably has a model number that starts "ST##). It probably has the model number stamped on the neck socket and the neck heel.
