I figured it's about time this guitar got some publicity! it's been sitting on it's stand colecting dust for a while...it's rather sad. It's my sisters guitar. She got it for her 16th birthday. picture quality isn't too wonderful...

Beauuuutiful Deluxe Fatty, and she doesn't use it??! Such a travesty!

I hope you give it some lovin' for her from time to time. You might just have to adopt it..!

I know! I hate to see it just sit there, so she said I could play it any time as long as I return it to her room when I'm done! so that's perfectly fine with me!! I just brought it over the other day and decided to let it have a little fun...

Hey banjo, what color are the knobs and pickups on the '54 reissue? And where did you get them?

I was thinking either parchment or vintage cream - but they look a little darker - unless it's just the light. I like the look- I have a natural finish with a white pearl pickguard and thought the darker knobs/switches looked kind of cool.

I've been too embarrassed to post pics of my partocaster, but I think now as I've "bonded" with it, I can reveal the franken-mosterrr...lol

I got the body and neck from a friend a while back. I bought pickups for it so I could actually play it and shortly after the middle pickup died, so that's why there's an empty space there. I never bothered replacing it, so I just revired the pickup selector switch a la telecaster, only instead of having a position where both pickups are used, I have a tone bypass for the neck.
It had a gold paintjob, but that started to peel off, so I striped it down and painted it white. Due to me not putting on a clearcoat (silly me), the paint wore down pretty quick (the gray under the paint in the pictures is the primer)...

And now, for some artistic shots...

By the way, I didn't purposely relic it. That just happened over time, and although you might not think it, I'm proud of all that wear. Another reason not to buy a relic.

Here are 4 of mine (left to right)

1) '04 Chrome Red Strat with a Seymour Duncan single space H'bucker (w/ the stock maroon cover)

2) '94 Aluminum Strat with Red Lace Sensors in neck & mid & Dimarzio SDS-1 in the bridge

3) '79 STOCK Strat Hardtail (don't ask how cheap I got it from a pawn shop)

4) '06 Elctron Blue Strat with a Dimarzio for teh neck, Fender Red Lace in the mid, & a Seymour Duncan Lil' 59 in the tail. Got a push/pull pot to split/phase the Seymour.

Lastly, the FENDER Custom Shop lighted 4 guitar display I bought from a music store that was going under. THAT'S really the prize cause it's a dealer only item that went for MEGA-bucks for that store. ENJOY 'em as much as I do.

I just performed a major operation on this guitar on Saturday...

Image

Brief history:

This is a MiJ 1968 Fender Stratocaster reissue that I purchased back in 1994 or 1995. AFter the original purchase I had a Seymour Duncan Hot rail installed in the Bridge and a Seymour Duncan Texas Tone installed in the neck. (Back in those days I used to subscribe to the theory that one guitar could do it all...hahahha...)

2 months ago I had the whole guitar refretted with jumbo frets. The old frets were worn, and on a narrow, thin neck it really transformed the playability of this guitar..

Last Night I installed Fender custom '69 pickups that feature the Alcino V magnets and damn if they weren't personally signed by Abigail Ybarra (she's been winding pickups for Fender since the 1950's.)<

I also had to replace the old GAE 5-position switch because it wasn't consistently making solid contact (I had it crap out on me on one gig...that was enough.) That inadvertantly led me...to rewire the whole guitar from the output jack to the ground to the tone selector leads, which are all either the cloth sheathed wire (which was excess from the pickups...all leads were cut to length with the exception of the middle pickup...I left enough slack on that in case I had to reverse polarity for normal phased switching...I didn't.) or 18-gauge shielded speaker wire which is installed to the ground and the input jack vs. the old standard 24 gauge wiring.

The pickguard is also shielded (off of a HWY 1)...I was tempted to shield it myself with some foil and 3M spray on adhesive, but I have some upgrades planned for my other strat.

In any case....the pickups are great if you're looking for a legitimate vintage sound, and are incredibly responsive. With moderate crunch and the volume all the way up the neck pickup sings for leads...dial it back to 7 or 8 and you're noticeably cleaner with a nice rhythm sound. The bridge pickup is NOT however, heavy or crunchy at all....in fact, it sounds like a very adequate emulation of what someone might expect out of a telecaster single coil.

All in all? Nice guitar for classic rock, country, jazz, or just playing clean. I wouldn't reccommend this setup for hard rock, metal, or any of the fascimiles thereof. It's vintage all the way, and it's probably about as close as you're going to get to a guitar of that era without paying an arm and/or leg, or sacrificing your firstborn...
