I guess picasa doesn't allow direct URL sharing. I guess this will work.

Here's my 2010 MiM HSS Standard . It had a white pick guard on it when I bought it new , the three ply black looks much better. It plays very well .

Thanks. I usually use photobucket but it was giving me fits on my phone without downloading the app. I'm trying to streamline and giving Google another chance these days. I can share an album out easily enough. It just leaves a link which I realize is not ideal. Decisions decisions lol.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

With all those axes you've all the necessary gear to cover many styles, from classic rock to howling metal :D including the Tele for twangy country!

IMO in your place I would put that mini Floyd Rose bridge on the custom HSH build…

Something wrong with the IMG code?

Thanks for sorting that out, not sure what I got wrong there first time round.

Yes, I'm absolutely loving that Custom Shop Daphne Blue Clapton Strat, that soft V neck is to die for and, as you may recall, my initial impression about not liking the active mid/DB boost is entirely reversed, I absolutely adore the flexibility of this guitar and I've gone from wanting to replace its pickups and electronics with purely passive Seymour Duncans to wanting the Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups and the EC TBX and mid/DB boost in all my other Strats...

Here's a couple of pictures of my newly-arrived strat in arctic white. It's more of a creamy white than I was expecting, which is good as I liked the olympic white colour but couldn't afford a guitar with that colour finish! I decided on an HSS as I'm only going to have one guitar for a while, and it covers all the styles of music I like.

I haven't put the tremolo arm in yet, but I don't really think I'll use it much. Can I just leave it off for now, and tighten the bridge to avoid any sort of movement?

I may be considering getting one of these. How do you like it?

I like the Strat Deluxe just fine. I bought her locally off Craigslist, I forget just how much I paid, but it was only around a Benjamin or so. They street for about $300. It plays fine, sounds like a Strat, and has alnico pickups, which most of my prior ones didn't. I'm not really a Strat guy, but I like to have a cheapie Strat of some sort around-- I've had an older MIK Squier, MIM Fender, Peavey USA Predator, and Squier Standard (Indonesian, iirc).

So, fwiw, ymmv.

Nice guitar!

I'm just a beginner guitarist ... so this guitar may seem a bit overkill. But I wanted something nice to celebrate finishing my PhD

It is not overkill. A MIM Standard is a very economical and affordable guitar. Even a Am Std would not have been overkill in my book. In my book, if you are going to play guitar, it is better to have a good one than not. Congrats on the degree, doc!

A lot of guitarists also leave the trem off (me also being one). The easiest thing to do is to add a spring or two to the back to get the bridge flush with the body (springs are cheap and readily available). Then if you want to use the trem later, you can just remove the added springs. That way you don't have to think about undoing any adjustments you made previously. You can search on "float" to get more info on how to make these adjustments if that is your preference.
