But, anyway, this control scheme maybe wouldn't make as much sense without the last two pieces of the equation. (This is the, "But wait, there's more!" portion of the program.) You may also be asking yourself why there are three jacks on this guitar.

The true reason for the two 4-way tele switches is this strat is in STEREO. Not to be outdone by the middle knob, the bottom knob is a hidden push/pull pot. It routs the neck/middle group to the top jack. Up until now we have been talking only about what comes out of the bottom back (output 1).

This is a Rickenbacker-inspired design. The idea of the "Rick-o-Sound" was to rout each pickup to a different amp. This guitar routs each pickup group to a different amp, so you have four options on the neck/mid group, but 16 on the bridge group (because of the rotary). These go to separate effects/amps of your choice. The bottom knob controls volume for the bridge/neck (always). The top knob controls master volume in mono and the bridge group volume in stereo.

But there's still that middle jack. Well, not to be outdone by the bottom push pull pot the top knob is also a push/pull (now you see why all these knobs are actually Fender amp knobs? They need to have set-screws so they don't pull off the switches easily).

Ok, so pulling the top knob activates the middle jack. This is the INPUT jack.

Yes, this guitar has an INPUT. This input is wired in parallel with the neck group's output on the Jaguar plate. What this means is that, if you pull out the bottom push/pull, you can send the mid/neck pickups out to whatever effects/eq/boost/whatever you want, and return the signal through the input to be mixed in with the bridge group in either series or parallel. So, you can use this as an FX loop for half your pickups while maintaining an unaffected sound on the bridge signal.

OR, you can just plain plug whatever instrument you want into the input and mix it into your signal. For example, step sequencers, synthesizers, other guitars, an auxiliary pickup/contact mic/piezo; whatever you want to plug into there it can be sent through the bridge pickups in series or wired in parallel with them (and in parallel with the neck pickups if you don't have them routed to the second jack) and send all of that out the bottom jack.

If you want to, you can even take a stereo effect connected to the bottom jack (like a delay or chorus or reverb, etc.) and rout half of it back into the input jack and create a volume-knob controlled feedback loop inside the guitar.

I charted out the various options this scheme allows. You end up with 210 total pickup selection options with this scheme (not accounting for volume mix variations and auxiliary inputs).

So TL;DR: 210 sound-strat with stereo, mono, series/parallel, and an aux input/return jack.

A REAL Pawnshop Deluxe in my opinion.

Note: Fender, I am available for hire! :D

The amazing thing is it sounds good and it's not noisy.

I attribute this to Domingos' excellent shielding job and the awesome pickups I had made for this.

They're all handwound alnico V coils of around 6-6.5k by a great builder out of TN named Travis Morris. Very reasonable pricing and some of the best pickups I've played.

Ha ha I am not sure what to call the guitar, though.

Wow, you must be one skilled guy to think up all that stuff, and make it happen. Fender should hire you.

What about the symbol you have drawn on there- "the all seeing eye" care to tell us about it? or would you like to have the secret handshake first

Ha ha actually, that was on there when I got it so I don't know the story behind it, but I kinda like it so I decided to leave it there.

If it ever wears off I may either redraw it or apply a kurt vonnegut "asterisk" sticker I have around for such occasions.

Well, in all the time that I've been gone since last posting on the forums, I put a tortoise shell guard on my 2007 Sunburst Highway1 Strat. I'll do my best to post a semi-decent picture of it here soon.

My "Frankenstrat" - started life as a 2002 MIM Deluxe Double Fat Strat. I installed a Seymour Duncan Classic 59 at the neck, and an SH-5 at the bridge. I also swapped the
standard 5-position switch for a tele-style 3-way. It has 500k pots. I also installed a set of String saver saddles, which I (surprisingly) like very well. It's set up with 10's and is now my go-to guitar if I don't want to take a variety of guitars with me to a gig.

i normally would never buy a squier, but this one is legit. the fit and finish has dramatically improved for the new squiers. i bought it for 50 bucks, found brand new fender pickups for 35 bucks and got a pickguard to go with it. i dropped the body when i was on my last coat of clear and didnt wanna start over. so i did a "distressed" thing for now until i feel like starting the prep/paint all over. its the best $100 ive ever spent.
