Wow, thanks! I heard a lot of feedback on that guitar, but I've never heard anyone call it "tasteful". I'm always shocked when other people like it.

FreedomStain, you shouldn't be shocked by that, it's a really cool guitar. :)

"Unique" is something everyone says. It is seldom a good thing though. I certainly picked the parts to make it unique. I was chasing tone, then I found it, now I'm in the process of selling it. No worries though, its replacement is being finalized on a workbench in Corona.

The guy who wants to buy it from me couldn't stop saying "Raddd" while playing it. I figured he was either from California or was severely colorblind and had a speech impediment. I was a bit insulted because he said he was going to use it in this pop band side-project he is working on. The guitar is a high powered noiseless monster. Sure, it gives you bell tone like no tomorrow, but it can do everything. I guess that is the price I pay for creating such a glam looking guitar.

FreedomStain, what you need for that middle guitar's pickguard is an external aerial. Is one of those knobs a vertical hold...? :D

Seriously though, be curious to hear any comments you have on that neck pickup. Very interesting - and a nice mix of guitars, BTW.

Cheers - C

lol. Thanks for the suggestions Ceri. The second knob has been replaced with a mini kill-switch.

The alumitone was part planned and part accident. I originally ordered a Seymour Duncan bridge pickup from the custom shop for that space. Unfortunately, the screw poles were too long in the back to recess the pickup enough. The strings would buzz against the poles when I played up on the neck. Luckily, around the same time, I ordered a custom painted alumitone from lace for another guitar. The damned thing took almost a year to get to me! I ended up installing it into the neck position in the white strat as a filler at first. It looked and played so nicely I left it! It is a bridge position too... I think.

The alumitone is loud and clear. It is slightly quieter than any lace product and a lot more powerful. With my setup, the top of the pickup doesn't go past its mounting screws...yea it is that low. Even with that set up, it is slightly louder than the hot golds. I think fender used them in some CS models and put the p'up under the pickguard! Although it looks like a humbucker, they are all single coil, so don't be fooled by how big it is. The main issue with the single coil style alumitones is that their square shape doesn't fit into a standard pickguard. This humbucker one is square too, and can't go any higher on my pickguard because the humbucker opening was rounded on the corners. I took pics of the p'up height but I'm not on my computer now. I'll post them another time.

The tone is a great and clean sounding. It sounds a lot more like how a middle pickup should sound, it isn't a modified tone like the held back neck p'up or the super-jangly bridge. I did notice that results seem to vary from guitar to guitar. It really seems to capture the sound of the individual instrument. That strat is a relatively heavy guitar and the pickup sounds amazing. The tone still sounds good when you dial back the knob and it distorts kinda chunky believe it or not. It really is a bizarre pickup.

It was always an amazing playing guitar. It was extraordinarily well made-the best Fender I own. It was set up perfectly and the wood used just works so well together. I'd be lucky if my custom played just like that strat... it is that good. I've had just about everybody play it, from pros to studio guys and I never head a bad review on how it plays or sounds... looks are a different story. 95% of them say it is the best strat they've ever played. It even converts people who normally hate strats. It plays like a dream and has endured different pickup changes gracefully. They all sounded good!

In a nutshell, it is a go-to guitar that won't let you down and has that irresistible quality to it that makes you want to play it. It is the only guitar I keep off my rack because of temptation! It just "feels" good.
