Eric Clapton's Blackie

Is that the real thing? Are you the one who bought it at Christie's Auction in 2005?

It's a Custom Shop replica...

You would have bet on that one knowing Alain's collection, wouldn't you have :!: Guitar Center purchased "Blackie", and "Lenny".....nearly $1.7 million in total costs.

You don't happen to know what they do with them, do you? Are they locked away in a hermetically-sealed vault, or do they get displayed? I know that if I happened to own a guitar like 'Blackie,' I'd play it everywhere. No one would believe that it was real though...

And yes, Alain has a wonderful collection that, as anyone can see, is very valuable. He also didn't stipulate in his original post that it was a custom shop replica. I thought I'd go out on a limb and guess.

[quote="Vulkan"][quote="zzdoc"]The 2004 Christie's Auction and it's outcome were well publicized as was the marketing for the 'Blackie' Tribute project by Fender.

Q-You don't happen to know what they do with them, do you? Are they locked away in a hermetically-sealed vault, or do they get displayed?

A-If memory serves. they are kept in a contolled temperature enviroment, in their cases. Alain obviously has the resources to do this properly . I know he plays them. As to whether he plays out, with them, I'm not sure but if you search the history of his postings, there may be a photo of him on stage with the Summers Tele. There are probably some venues where I would only be comfortable shouldering a $129 Squier. Interestingly enough, I have audtioned guitars of that ilk which feel surprisingly well made.

Doc - I think he was asking what GC did with Blackie and Lenny, not Alain's collection ...

If so then, to the best of my knowledge and belief, they are in the company's central store location in California. You can check out their website for more info.
