Thanks SP.... Nice to know somebody appreciates MY personal take on how Fender SHOULD produce a Deluxe Strat. They make so many versions, variations on those versions and Signature models besides, it's mind-boggling. As if Chrome or Gold hardware and colors aren't enough, headstock size and even ones matching the body color make for an endless variety....... mine is just one more I wish they'd consider, but I know the Grovers, StrapLoks, MM bridge-trem and Latch switch aren't brand items Fender would consider even through the custom shop, so I had to deal with those changes myself. Here's the WHY of it all:

1) I put Dunlop StrapLoks on ALL my guitars & to me, that's a no-brainer.

2) With any tremolo, it's a well-known fact that some type of string-anchoring system helps to stabilize tuning. The extra hassles that come with the 'dual locking' systems is a bit too much for me. Extra routs on the guitar and tools needed for string changes just aren't worth it in my book. I also don't care for the manual twist-lock systems that tend to take skin samples off your fingers to get them tight. Since I acquired an 1986 PRS back in '88, I have been a big fan of auto-lock tuners and for a Strat, you just can't get any better slant 6 auto-locks than Grovers. (IMHO)

3) The one thing I've never liked about a Strat is the controls set-up. I much prefer how the Teles are positioned and the simplicity of 1 V & 1 T. Somebody (influencing Leo) must have wanted to adjust the volume with his pinky and was too cheap (or too stupid) to invest in a volume pedal. Any time I have ever played a regular Strat, that knob has always been in my way and I'd bump it constantly..... a real pain for me. Besides, why the extra tone wiring anyhow? I barely ever use or need a tone dial, so 2 separate ones (for me) are just a waste of wire, knobs and space.

4) Because the dials-knobs are 'tall' enough and where they are placed, they restrict the close-in comfort of the tremolo arm. Again, the design and features of the PRS showed me what was so 'old' about the early '50s design of the Strat's high (hard to grab quick) screw-in trem. A nice, LOW pop-in trem arm suits me just fine and having a LOW coil tap switch that doesn't impede the arm is just a perfect solution to it all.

5) I like the option of a humbucker with coil-tap, but a common mini-switch wasn't the answer in this case. Since I was using only 2 controls, the hole for the 'close-to-the-pick-up' pot neck would be too large for a mini-switch. Besides, in that spot, it would be easy to bump that as well, which is why I chose a Latching switch to lock in either setting and be the right size for the hole. (Slight filing was required to accommodate the switch's threads.) The ONLY draw-back? It's hard to tell whether the switch is set for single coil or not, but a quick 1 or 2 note sound check, punching the switch, lets you know. I may eventually install a small light that looks similar to the one on the VG, but it would also require a battery..... rats!

6) I happen to prefer the look and feel of the metal Tele knobs, but when I saw that pearl caps were available, I liked them even more. CLASSY, eh? (I did, however, opt for the 'more reliable' push-on type rather than the side screw kind, which CAN come loose...... and FALL OFF! LOL)
So, that's the story of the prime (brand) changes. As for the LSR roller nut and roller string Tees, I just feel they are a better choice for enhancing the trem-action and tuning stability.

NOTE: Funny thing about spell-check. Any time it catches 'humbucker', it wants to change it to hamburger!!!...... hahahahaha

you do have valid points. some opinion and some just common sense. i do agree with the trem arm completly. i also have the problem of everytime i dive bomb, if i'm not paying attention, i hit the volume knob. :(

That's a beautiful new deluxe man! You will not be sorry you bought it, the neck is nice huh? I have the same case and I've read some things about how the case is not as good as it should be. I don't play the case and don't fly at all so the case is no problem, if you don't buy a great guitar because of the case seems to me you're missing the whole point! Once again a very nice guitar!! 8)

Thanks all, great family only heard from when wanted.
And yes they're the Maple family hopefuly to be joined by a rosewood necked double fat strat special. Come on over time!!!!
Troublecall,
On the Lace Golds, I like them ok. They're an aquired taste. They sound very cool straight but I usaly punch them up with an overdrive/disortion and that, to me at least ,makes them work. I realy like the pickups in my stock hard tail I love them straight up and boosted, overdriven,chorused................
Peace. J.J.B.

jackbart, at first I thought your black on black was the new David Gilmour Signature.

Mine has a similar theme, but I didn't realize it for almost 6 weeks.

Man it's hard to get work done here at the office when I see pics of those beautiful Strats. It just makes me want to go home, put on some comfy clothes and play all day on my Strat. I'm guessing the "greats" spent all day honing their skills on their gits rather than wearing suits and sitting in an office.

JK boss.
