Hi everyone

First post, I purchased a new Jeff Back Strat recently, I hope someone can help me: When I screwed in the Tremolo arm it suddenly stuck after a few circles... I hardly managed to get it out again and the very low part of the thread was worn a bit. I then greased the thread with silicon grease and then it went in fine but not the whole way down (the upper part of the thread was still visible) and it felt either pretty loose or one turn further down too tight so I assume it's not far down enough to touch the spring. So I bought a new arm (P.N. 0992054000 AM Standard) which looks the same as the original but has a slightly shorter thread.
That one screwed in nicely at first but soon got harder and I was not able to screw it in any further (the upper part of the thread is visible as well...). :? So I probably got two times the wrong trem arm?? Could that be, even though I bought a new out of the box guitar?

Does anyone know what EXACT type of tremolo arm is required for the Jeff Beck Strat?

I'm grateful for any kind of advice!

Cheers! 8)

Sounds to me Clarence as if it's a bad thread in the hole for the bar, very unlikely i would have thought that two tremolo bars could both be bad. Where did you buy it from? if from a shop take it back and tell them to fix it as it's not on with a new guitar.

If you bought it privately then take it to a guitar repair person and get them to look at it. Maybe the hole in the block needs the thread chased out a bit to allow the arm to go in properly. That syndrome you're talking of where it's fairly loose and then it binds up almost straight after that makes it sound as if the hole is threaded and when the bar reaches the bad thread it won't go any further without forcing.

I hope you get it sorted as it looks a great guitar that one. 8)

I had bought an `08 Strat and out of the box the block was not drilled right. They had to replace the block and then the tremolo bar went in properly. You might have the same problem.

Thanks for your help guys! Oh well, one would not expect a fault like that on a 2000$ instrument...

There is a warranty for something though! And yes Gary, otherwise it's a fantastic guitar!

Cheers

Things like that happen and with the price of that model you wouldn`t think you would have problems like that. But as mentioned in a different thread even custom shop guitars go out with some issues at times. The Jeff Beck Strat is my next guitar and I`m looking forward to it. Once this is resolved you`ll be ok. Enjoy it their really nice.

It shouldn't happen Clarence , you've been really unlucky. It could be something as simple as a metal burr on a thread stopping the arm dead in it's tracks, that's why it go's from fairly slack to tight even when there's still thread showing on the arm. I would have thought a simple chase of the thread with a die would clean out any problem. Should be very easily remedied.

Congratulations on getting that guitar it's one i'm looking at for the future as well i love Jeff's playing.
