I decided to maybe build my own Strat (with Fender parts, of course).
I had some questions:
1. Will a relatively new (2005-2008) American Standard or Highway One neck fit on a Japanese or Mexican Standard body?
2. Will the same USA neck fit on an older USA body?
3. Will a rear single coil pickup fit in a Nitro body?
4. I really don't know much about Fender single coil pickups. Is Alnico the brand name that are used in most Strats nowadays or are they actually made by Fender? Are they noiseless?

I think Alnico stands for Aluminum Nickel. I doubt all Alnico pickups are Noiseless but im pretty sure the Noiseless pickups made by Fender have Alnico magnets.

I may be wrong about this stuff, but im pretty sure im right. maybe some one can confirm.

Alnico....Aluminum..Nickle..Copper...as far as noiseless, I would think there are better choices. I have these pups in my strat and I`m ok with them but it`s a matter of personal choice.

necks generally will fit, as long as the body has the same bolting system. in the 70's, they used 3 bolts, instead of 4. so any 70's reissues will have 3 bolts. also make sure you know if it has a microtilt system.

as for alnico, it refers to the magnet in the pickup. it isnt a brand. there are also many types of alnico magnets in pickups, each giving a different sound.

unless a pickup states that it is noiseless, it won't be. Some noiseless pickups are made with alnico magnets. but there are also standard pickups that are made with alnico.

I am looking at noiseless pups, too, for a Squier Tele I'm thinking of hotrodding. If you want to cut through some of the marketing crapola about pups, go to Bill Lawrence' website and read up on it.
http://www.billlawrence.com/Pages/Picku ... ntents.htm

He's the originator of replacement pups.

Some noiseless are "Stacked" Humbuckers where the extra coil is wound underneath the visible "single coil" instead of side by side. Humbuckers are basically two single coils wired out of phase which cancels out 60 Hz hum and other noise, hence the name.

If anyone has any preference for a noiseless HB that fits a Tele bridge for a blues/rock sound, I'm open for suggestions.

I've been considering rolling my own strat. I doubt that I would use any Fender parts. Not that the Fender parts are low quality, I should think that the object of the exercise would be to build a BETTER strat.

It would be a lot cheaper to buy the strat you like as opposed to building it from Fender parts... I'd venture a guess that the instrument would triple in price if built from parts.

I'd use some Callaham hardware parts, perhaps a Warmoth body, maybe a Mighty Might neck, say a pre-wired Lace Sensor Alumitone pickguard and pups.

I always stop as soon as I consider a finish. I'd want it done professionally, say by a custom motorcycle paint shop, and I know that would cost some bucks

Warmoth.com has a wide selection of guitar parts such as necks and bodies, both finished and unfinished that deserves a look. Stewmac.com has every conceivable tools, jigs and parts as well. Stewmac.com even sells the parts to make you own pickups. This is somthing that I want to do when I make my flame top maple and ebony neck Type-S (Strat style) guitar... I want to wind my own pickups!
