I am the Guitar Dept. Manager at a music store in West Edmonton Mall.
I see a lot of different people come through and I have asked several people their opinion on a David Gilmour Signature Strat. There seems to be several people interested in owning one, myself included.

This thread is an online petition to have David agree to it and Fender to produce it.

Red with white pick guard.
Fender floating bridge (dual post, fits inside the routing)
Sperzel locking machine heads.
Kinman pickups (not sure which model)
Maple fretboard

I have always sworn that I would never buy a signature unless this one was made.

I, as someone in the business and an avid player and fan of Fender guitars, believe this should be the next signature Strat.

Thank you for listening.

Just think of what kind of hype an announcement of his sig. would have!

Just think of the NAMM show they would announce it at!!

I am going to winter NAMM in '09, that would be a show to see!!

the way im unterstanding it you are talking about the specs on the red strat well thei are wrong it should be

candy apple red body with one ply white pickguard
fender vintage style bridge(non floating) with the three springs in the back
kluson vintage style tuners
emg dg-20 pickups
21 fret maple fretboard

and btw there is already talking about fender making a Gilmour sig but its the black one not the red one!...

They're already working on it. It will be based on the black strat, and come with a book about the history of the actual instrument.

Check Gilmour's blog and Google "The Black Strat" for more info.

It's been discussed on David's blog and Gilmourish.com

David's black Strat is his number one goto guitar, he also plays his red Strat (EMG Pickups) if the concert hall fits it's tonality, and let's not forget his Les Paul Goldtop with P90's and a Bigsby vibrato he plays on a few of his songs...

Phil Taylor wrote a book on David's Black Strat and the many upgrades it has seen throughout the years.

http://www.theblackstrat.com/The_Black_Strat-home...html

The Black Strat today:

- Original Fender 1969 black alder body with a black 1-ply 11 hole pickguard.
- 1983 Fender ‘57V reissue maple neck with Gotoh tuners.
- Original late 1960’s Fender neck and middle pickups and a Seymour Duncan SSL-1 bridge pickup.
- 3 way pickups selector with a custom toggle switch on the pickguard for neck/bridge combo.
- Shortened tremolo arm to 4.25″.

EMGs would not be in the new Strat- Gilmour has said in an interview with Guitar World a couple years back that the EMGs sound nice but weren't what he was really going for- they didn't sound "Strat-ty" enough for his liking. The reason he used them so much was because he was having noise issues due to the numerous lights and effects that Pink Floyd used on tour.

And even though Kinmans are really nice, I think DG actually has Seymour Duncan pickups in the guitar (which were hand wound under Gilmour's supervision by SD himself).

THAT all being said, I'll buy a Gilmour sig as soon as it comes out and I can afford it...

I think it would be awesome if they did a David Gilmour strat. I probably would try to buy it somehow after I got my hands on a VG.

GET YOURSELF TO BORDERS AND A COPY OF 'THE BLACK STRAT'. THEN ASK YOURSELF IF YOU'RE READY TO ANTY UP LIKELY 25K+ FOR THAT. THEN ASK YOURSELF HOW MANY GAZZILLION PESOS IT'S GONNA COST FOR THE SYSTEM THAT DRIVES THAT STELLAR SOUND. THEN ASK YOURSELF HOW YER GONNA GET DAVID OVER HERE PLAY THAT GUITAR FOR YOU.

AFTER ALL OF THAT, GO OUT AND GET YOURSELF A DECENT BLACK STRAT, WITH A NECK, FINGERBOARD AND FRET SETUP THAT CALLS TO YOU, DROP AN EMG DG-20 RIG INTO IT, FIND AN AMP WITH A GREAT WET SOUND AND MAKE SOME MUSIC.
