Are left handed pups different to right handed pups. Someone said the pole staggering may be different but are there different versions?

Welcome.

Many manufacturers:

Offer pre-set, staggered polepieces in an effort to selectively fine tune each string for equal output. Some of these pickups can simply be reversed in direction when installed if it is for a lefty player, some cannot, depending on their physical construction. Not as many will offer them with a lefty contour though, premising the construction would not automatically allow arbitrary reverse installing them.

Offer pickups with adjustable polepieces where the owner can selectively fine tune each string for output. Of course, no lefty/righty designation is required.

Offer pickups with level/even/non-staggered polepieces as the lighter gauge string sets of today balance better with them. Here too, no lefty/righty designation is required.

Hope this helps.
