but u can still get the clean sound from a strat HSS because of the 2 single coils and then the Humbucker for nice tone for harder rock .Its the all in one guitar plus u can get the S-1 swithing too!!!!!!!

HSS - like my Mexi. I get a greater variation of sounds. Also, it seems to me, that the bridge pickup on an SSS is almost redundant. It just doesn't seem that one more single coil - especially at the bridge - is going to change the sound of the other 2 singles.

But like I say, I have an HSS. Anyone have other views on this?

Triple S all the way, it never fails with versatility, if you really need a humbucker in the Bridge, that's why Mr. Seymour Duncan created the Hot Rail. Yes! Positively!

If I could only have ONE Stratocaster, I guess I would pick the HSS version.

But in the real world, I would pick both.

I like the SSS only, as to me, this is what a Stratocaster was intended to be. Installing a full sized humbucker, no matter how seemingly practical, turns a Stratocaster into a 'frustrated' SG.

Oh please. The only acceptable strat is SSS or a Bill Lawrence or S. Duncan that fits in the single-coil template.

If you don't want the strat sound, get something else.

(Not trying to start a fight here. It's just what I think. Peace, Love, Groovie)

I use SSS for metal more than I do HSS or even HH or just H. One of those things that just suits a person I guess.

But personally I like SSS more than HSS, much more distinguished than the HSS. :)

My vote was other; however, I do like my SSS Hwy 1 Stratocaster. I usually play HH or even HSS setups on my guitars; however, when I first played my HWY 1, I knew it was meant for me. I play Metal, Blues, and old Rock on my Fender. HH set-ups usually are better for Metal.

For me it's always been more about the "feel" of a Strat than about the sound of the Fender single coil pick ups. The guitar balances fantastically and is soooo comfortable to play. They look pretty darned sexy too (curvy like a good woman :D )

I changed out the stock Humbcker in my HSS for a DiMarzio Tone Zone and the single coils for 2 DiMarzio Pro Track single coil sized humbuckers and haven't regretted the move.

I do have a 74 SSS Strat for if/when I want to hear that famous 60 cycle hum

With the HSS strat with S1 switching, there is no need to choose!
