I know . . . look on eBay but the heck with eBay. They've PO'd me for the last time.

I am trying to determine fair market value for my 2006 American Standard Limited Edition Ash Stratocaster in Sienna Sunburst w/Tortoise. Very Good condition. It does, however, have the Clapton Vintage Noisless Pups and Electronics in it and locking tuners. Though the additions absolutely improved tone and playability I don't know if the changes help or hurt the value?

In 2006, it was a $1299 guitar normally because of the "Limited Edition Ash" thing that I bought on sale for $1099.

Would like to buy a new Candy Apple, V neck, AM Deluxe if I can get a decent price for this one. If not, I'll keep it. Still looks and plays great.

Assistance Appreciated.

Garth

Not possible to determine any value without pics from all sides, serial #....
Bear in mind that upgrades will not be reflected in a higher sale price...
One person's brown tone is another's shreek squeal......

Many look for a Strat in it's original stock form, since it is difficult to assess wether electronic mods were done correctly.....Either way for a model line that has hundreds if not thousands of similar models it is not going to be easy to justify a higher price just because of the mods....

Was trying to get a ballpark here. I don't think that's impossible. If I was actually selling it here I would naturally provide the serial number and pics to "prove" it's what I am describing to anyone actually interested.

For now, it is as described. I would not consider it to be in Very Good condition if the mod was poorly done. I would frankly consider it "Excellent" condition for a nearly 6 year old guitar.

It is normal for people to be asked to provide detailed photos of their guitar if they are trying to identify it or get an idea of what it is worth. It is also normal for people to comply with that request if they are serious in wanting help. It is your right not to provide the requested photos. Just don't expect a lot of help.

Done "properly" I would either have to wait for a sunny day or set up appropriate lighting in the studio which is WAY more time then I want to invest to just get a ballpark of what this is worth. It looks like it is trending $6-800 range which is where I thought it should be with a "buy it now" price of $800 and an auction starting price of $600 but was wanting others opinions based only on an accurate description. If my description isn't accurate, then the feedback I get won't be accurate.

Another reason I don't go there is I was recently trying to sell a Canon 300 F/4 IS lens and this guy on Fred Miranda.com "demanded" I take all these particular photos of the lens beyond what I provided and email him at least 20 shots taken with the lens. So, I spent 2 hours doing what he requested taking the lens shots and digging through photo directories and he never even bothered to respond. The lens didn't have a scratch on it and a number of the pictures I emailed to him had won photo competitions. I was getting my chain yanked.

Based on your description you are in the ballpark with your estimate. Modifications do not neccesarily equal upgrades, and in most cases detract from the value rather than add to it unless you can also provide the original parts. $600 to $800 should include the original case as well. Good luck...Hope it finds a good home. :)

Everybody gets asked for photos of their guitar when they ask a question like this. 95% happily comply and get the answer they want. The other 5% come up with some lame excuse about why they won't provide photos. They get the answer they deserve. I hope the OP is happy. Guess we're done here now.

I wasn't asking for Studio Quality shots, this does not have to be a National Geographic Layout..

Just a few clear photo's of the body front and back, the head stock front and back, close up so that the hardware can be identified. When/if you provide the requests then Forum members can give you an idea of what they would consider paying for that guitar....That in turn would give you a ballpark figure to play with...

There are multiple threads where Newbies pop-up, ask for their guitars to be evaluated or for a guitar not yet in their possession to be evaluated....
Keep in mind that you are asking for a courtesy from Forum Members, there is no obligation for any-one here to comply since looking up a guitar may involve some painstaking research.
More often than not One's expected value for their guitar will not be reflected in the marketplace unless it happens to be a limited edition or a truly pristine Vintage Model.
It is a Buyer's Market out there, not a good one to be selling guitars, but definitely One to be in the Buying Mode.....
I personally would not sell a guitar on E-Bay mainly because of the uncontrollable factors involved...But that is /will be your choice....

So being polite is required, your future input here is more than Welcome by All......
But if you are going to be Crabby or even Troll-like...Then a G'Day and Get On Your Way...

Now that we have dispensed with the Formalities...How about those Pics....

I wouldn't hold my breath.

By the way, the estimated value of the OP's guitar, based on the poll results from right now has dropped by about $72.

Crabby, Troll like, Lame, Smart $@!, value now trending to $72?

Just wanted a ballpark figure of my Strat as described and I'm being fed the riot act.

I don't think I am hardly the one being crabby, troll like, and lame here.

Cell phone shots are not going to show ANY detail unless you have some high dollar 8MP phone. It will show poor resolution of a 2006 American Standard Stratocaster Limited Edition Ash in Sienna Sunburst w/tortoise with black Vintage pups and knobs per the EC electronics upgrade and locking tuners. You already know that from the description provided.

Now, shots with my 7D and 16-35 F/2.8 II lens in sunlight or studio lighting? That's what I would take the time to do and show if/when I decide to sell it.

Sorry I asked.

Question asked, question answered.

If someone out there happens to want exactly the modifications that have been done then the guitar may be worth more in their eyes. Otherwise, mods hurt value: by "good condition" people mostly mean as close to brand new condition as possible.

Cheers - C

A simple, courteous request for photos of your guitar was made. You just happen to fall into the 5% who don't have the courtesy to respond to that request, instead saying that your description is all we need to know. If you had bothered to spend a few minutes on this forum you would know that when people are asked for photos, we are not looking for art shots. Just something in focus and of reasonable quality. The amount of time you spent telling us why you won't do that could have been spent taking a couple of photos to show what we are trying to evaluate. As far as being "Crabby, Troll like, Lame, Smart $@!" no one here called you names so I suggest you look closely in the mirror.

Oh, and based on your latest poll results the value of your guitar as you described it is now down to $628.

Personally, I love sienna sunburst. I also love noiseless pickups. I'll tell you what I looked at that was close and what I would have paid:

2010 sienna sunburst HSS DELUXE strat at guitar center used with original hard case. Not a mark on it. These came stock with fender noiseless pickups. It was flawless. Listed at $899. With a coupon that they would honor, I'd get 15% off, so cost to me with guitar centers guarantees and 30 day return would have been $765.15. There's a bit higher than yours because it is a Deluxe.

2006 standard strat hardtail in 3 tone sunburst SSS. Not perfect, but very, very nice. I prefer hardtail, but the market doesn't, so I know that this should be lower than yours, and the 3t is cheaper than sienna. Listed at $599 so I could get it (same coupon) for $509.15. Again with GC 30 day return.

Personally, I'd put yours right in the middle of these 2. So say $637.15.

I'm an engineer. I don't think you're going to get a more precise analysis unless someone does a market survey on guitars exactly like yours.

Or put it on craigslist high.....say $1200 and come down $100 every 4 days. I do that all the time and when it's at a reasonable price, people will make offers instead of volunteering to drive you to detox.
