I traded for a light ash MIK strat. The serial number is 04093971. There are no letters in front of the serial number. Can anyone tell me what type of guitar this is? Is it a Squire? It does have the two metal wire guides on it. It has a V neck which is the light ash color as well.

Thanks for your help

Hi Ronw435, welcome to the Forum.

Do you have 22 frets, abalone dot markers, birdseye maple for the neck and a black pickguard with black covers and knobs? Then it is not a Squier but a MIK Fender Special Edition Lite Ash Strat, issued for about three or four years and discontinued I believe two years ago (or maybe three - time flies). Assuming it has not been modded you will also find that it has Seymour Duncan pickups which are a nice set, to my ears.

All together a good guitar and built to a standard well above the price they charged for them new, in my opinion.

Cheers - C

I will try to get some pics up. It does have black pic guard as well as black knobs. Not sure about the wood on the neck but it is a little different than the body. With what looks like maybe pearl buttons. It does have 22 frets. Also has Seymour Duncan pick ups.

I have a MIA Deluxe HSS but I really like playing the MIK better.

Thanks for your help

Abalone - a nice little touch that usually belongs on more expensive guitars. And you will find that the neck wood is birdseye maple - again, an unusual feature in the price bracket (the Special Edition Lite Ash Strat and Tele were around the same price as a MIM Standard). You may find upon close inspection that the neck has a separate fingerboard, even if the join is hard to spot. That's so that the birdseye figure can be nice from the front as well as the back.

My Lite Ash Tele also has a satin finish on the neck, which makes it feel distinctly different to many other Fenders. Good.

Looking forward to the photos.

Cheers - C

I have a Korean Koa-Top Strat and it's every bit as good as a Mexican Strat.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Yep: in my experience MIK Fenders are very well built and excellent value at the price.

...I hope guitslinger doesn't see me writing that, though. There are strong feelings about that Cort factory.

Thanks!
I will keep my eye out and check one out. I am looking to add a HSS to my collection.

Im not an expert but I have a MIA deluxe strat and a MIK strat and I really dont see any difference in the quality of the build. There is just a bit difference in sound but I actually like the MIK sound a little better.
