I have a 2004 American Strat that is cobalt blue with an ebony fretboard. It has no pickguard and only one tone knob. The volume knob has a button on the top of it. It has 2 individual SCN pickups and a double pickup.

Can someone help me understand what kind of Strat this is?

Thanks

If you upload the pics to image shack or photobucket first you can then use the direct link. Just click the "Img" tab above the reply box and put the image link into it. Like this:

Thanks for posting the photos - it is a 2004 American Deluxe Maple Top Strat - the body should be alder with a "bent" maple top that follows the contour of the Strat body (much like the kind of maple top guitars Anderson or Suhr makes). I'll be honest I can't tell from the photo if it is supposed to be a flame top or a quilt top - unless you have a fairly decent camera that cobalt blue can obscure the figuring. At any rate if it is a flame top then the model name was "American Deluxe FMT Strat", and if it has a quilted top then it's an "American Deluxe QMT Strat".

They were only made from 2004 until maybe 2008 or so before they were discontinued. I believe the humbucker was the same DH-1 humbucker still used on the American Deluxe HSS. The volume knob does have the S-1 switch in it.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, John, for your reply to my post. I love the guitar - it's easy to play and looks much better in person. I'm still not comfortable with the S-1 switch -- I usually leave it in the up position.

Only a very few of these FMT/QMT beauties were sold with the locking bridge option. Subsequently, they were not available as a part of Fender's regular product lines.

Haha - it kinda looks like a quilty-flame, or a flamy-quilt. Which isn't so unusual, after all. Nobody's told the trees that they're meant to be the one or the other.

I'd be fascinated to know whether Fender sold this one as QMT or FMT - but we may never find out... :D

Cheers - C
