Thanks

When I got it I had my choice of a Clapton or Beck Artist series, get the Am Dlx or an '87 Strat Plus.

On the day I got the guitar, the store selling the Strat Plus was closed and I wasn't able to go back as I was only in the area for a few days. I couldn't find any stores in the area with the Clapton and Beck strats in stock and since I wasn't 100% sure if I would like them I wasn't willing to order one even though they would have shipped it to my home. I just didn't want the hassle of returning it if the guitar wasn't to my liking.

So I got the Am Dlx. I tried out about 5 of the at L.A. Music in Mississauga, Ontario (Canada for those who dont already know); and this one was my favorite of the bunch. It was the heaviest of the bunch and had the fattest tone. The finish wouldn't have been my first choice, but looks were secondary to me and the finish has since grown on me.

Come to find out it's very similar to the Beck model in terms of hardware - only difference is no LSR nut and the Am Dlx has the S1 switch...I think the neck is more of a vintage spec neck also while the Am Dlx has a compound radius neck.

And yes, I'm very lucky for my wife. She spoils me (as I do for her too). In 2008 it was tickets for Kiss in Halifax for my birthday; 2009 - Alice Cooper tickets for my birthday; 2010 - Zappa Plays Zappa tickts for my birthday; and this year along with the guitar she got me tickets to see Cheech and Chong.

I think you have great taste. I got the HSS, but not for Christmas. Every time I take it out I get compliments on the finish. Position 2 and 4 with the S1 engaged are my favorite settings. Enjoy.
