:D

But to answer your question, Squier guitars have come a long way. As with any other brand, you have some good ones and some not so good ones. In the case of Squier, they are 'cost-engineered' to be inexpensive. As a result, they'll use some materials that may not be as well-made as MIA or even MIM Fenders. Despite this, a number of them are made well enough to be good guitars and some (like the Deluxe, VM and CV) tend to be generally better appointed and perhaps a little better made than the lower end of the line (Affinity, Bullet). Even the Standard Squiers can be pretty nice. So if you have a Squier Stratocaster that works for you, then rock on. Don't get caught up on the name on the headstock stigma.

Bit of a broad statement! The new CV's are really good and my old Korean Squier is certainly better than some Fenders I've tried but my American Standard strat is in a different league.

+1 on that !
If you are happy with the way it sounds and plays who cares what anyone else thinks. If not, you can always modify her a bit. You'll be surprised how much fun it can be to modify your guitar to fit....you.

Like any brand, there is a lot of snobbery with " real strats " and squires.
Nothing wrong with the squire, first for me, sounds good.

Squier guitars have always been pretty decent entry level guitars. I have owned 2 over the years :) They look good, sound ok, play well and are all but bulletproof! But one day you WILL desire something just a bit higher on totem pole ;)

I have a Squier Standard series Strat in my collection.

It was a noticeably good guitar straight out of the shop, more than good enough to invest some further cash on hardware improvements. A re-wire, 3 new SD pickups, and some locking Sperzels make it a guitar I happily gig with, alongside my modded Highway 1. Changed the pickguard recently too.

Here it is (although I guess I should have polished it..):

I have a Squier that I learned how to do everything on from adjust trss rods to soldering and setups. I also did an awful job relicing it. ;) Now with some EMG SA's, it's a Dave Gilmour inspired strat that is awesome!

After playing my 2 US and Mexican Strats, I have to say that the Squire's neck does feel a little.. industrial.. functional rather than moulded to fit, but it's not something I worry about when I pick up the guitar. It's like a slightly ugly ducking daughter - still a lot of love in there..

I've got a 2009 Hot Rails Deluxe and I love it. After I set it up to my liking it really howls. Beautiful satin finish on the fat off neck, hell even the 2 point floating trem is good. You just have to remember that most people like to look down on others, particularly in the guitar community online. I've been playing for over 25 years & I chose my Deluxe over some more expensive guitars. Does it stay in tune ? Do you like the sound ? Does it feel comfortable ? These are the things that matter.

Not ALL Squires are bad.

I purchased one on Ebay about 9 yrs ago, I wasn't sure what model it was but it was modified with DiMarzio stacked-humbucker pickups and a 3-ply pickguard. I also bought Schaller Tuners which I also bought on Epay.

This guitar sounded great and the neck was so/so pretty good compared to Fenders. But the body seemed thinner and slightly smaller than a Fender. The body and name on the headstock bothered me...within a year I sold it. Now that I look back, I should have kept it, it got the job done and felt good enough to play.

A few months ago, I visited a friend and jammed on his Gibson LP...he also had a Squire Affinity Series Strat which I tried out. It sounded very good but not as good as a Fender Standard Stratocaster with stock ceramic pickups. I noticed that the 5-way switch was very loose and jiggled (and he takes care of his guitars), the pickguard looked cheap and the neck was dull maple. The neck itself was rough and unpolished...as another forum member said, I also thought it felt "industrial" but yet playable. The tuners also were lacking as it could not stay in tune. But with a few small modifications his guitar can go from just "alright" to pretty darn descent.

Overall, I think a higher-end Squire is better than a lot of the Deans and Jacksons I've tried at Guitar Center. I agree that Squire is on the up...maybe in a few more years the brand will demand a little more respect. But agreed, there are always good ones and BETTER ones of almost every guitar model.

My perfect Squier would be...a lightweight and resonant alder body, a hard and correctly coated maple neck w/ extra jumbo frets and stable, long lasting staggered locking tuners, a beefy and stable nut and bridge, grease bucket tone circuit, same type of pickups as the Hwy 1 but all get a humbucker with coil tap and noiseless middle and neck single space USA Custom Shop Asian re-pros, thin nitro finish, USA specs for interchangeability w/ American parts, relentlessly perfect specimens, a...hardshell case, strap, chord, tools, and spiffy book and tags, ...$629.00 US, call it...hmmm...The Squier Custom Shop 2012 Strat! ...Violin/Tobacco Burst, clear Black metal flake, clear Red Red metal flake, and...everybody luvs a creamy white guitar -- creamy clear white w/ strong rainbow burst metal flake, all get gold hardware and creamy white plastic on all but the Black metal flake, the black metal flake getting the black-out treatment with black hardware and plastic, w/ creamy white Mayan calendar dots on the Black and woody colored Mayan calendar dots on the rest, all getting a special gold plated 2012 commemoration button on the back of the neck and front of the guitar case, each hand signed by the final inspector before shipping to the US -- pre-order yours today!

...telecaster models available shortly, stay tuned for the specs!
