The 70s is one of few, if not the only Strat, that you can get off the rack with a natural finish...

I have the Classic Series "70's" Strat and the 3-bolt neck has never given me any issues whatsoever. I wouldn't worry about it. Overall, it's been a great guitar for the 12 years I've owned it. Because it's not actually a classic, I've tweaked it a bit and it plays/sounds better than a lot of the new American Fenders I've played. I've gone back and forth on the headstock. I think at this point I'm firmly decided that the classic one is sexier, but the 70s one is definitely unique and has its own appeal. Mine is 3-tone sunburst, and while the body is definitely heavy, it's not a night and day difference from my American Std Strat, and the Ash woodgrain looks great. I say go for whichever one feels better to you; you can't really go wrong.
