Hello Forum,..I have heard/read that, stratocasters will sound better with the trem spring cover removed. Is this true? I do not notice much diffrence on my ash deluxe with it on or removed.

Never heard that before. Don't know why it would . The guitar is against your body when you're playing so removing the tremolo spring cover isn't going to do anything for tone that I can see.

"Yes, it makes a huge diference."

"No, it makes no difference what so ever."

"It might make a difference."

Those are about the range of answers that you will get to your question. Choose the one you agree with the most.

I agree with bluesky636 - I've heard some people with hypesonic ears (like Eric Johnson for example) say it makes a difference; others say it doesn't.

Thinking back to my youth people took them off to make it easier to change strings or replace a broken string on the fly - it was hard to thread the strings through the holes on the vintage-style back plates. Also if you deck the trem the holes in the back plate no longer match up with the trem block.

Yes. It makes a difference in how your belt buckle feels against the guitar.
No. It makes no difference in how the guitar sounds.
Maybe. It might make a difference in how much lint and dust accumulates behind the trem spring claw.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Yeah. I keep mine on to prevent things from getting snagged in the springs.

I had my backplate off for about 3 yrs and I finally put it back on over the weekend...it was in a ziplock bag in a drawer and I was like, "what the hell".

I found no difference in sound/tone at all.

I guess I took mine off to be like Eric Johnson and Yngwie Malmsteen. Yes, made taking strings off easier but recently I decided to just put it back on because it levels out the back of the guitar's body and feels better.

To each his own...whatever floats your boat.

I also have mine in a ziplock bag too..lol..i plan on putting it back on after i change the strings in the next few days. Just recently, my hi E (1st) string started making a wierd sound when fretted at 1st 2nd and 3rd fret now..all other strings do not do this and, before i start panicking, I am going to change out the strings. (I actually cannot remember when i last changed them.) The guitar has not been modded at all and i take good care of it so, hopefully, it's just bad strings.

As mentioned Eric Johnson has no cover on his signature model. In fact, the body doesn't even have the holes so you would have to drill them to put the cover on. I seriously doubt the cover makes a difference but maybe having 4 less holes in the body makes a slight difference. I personally cannot tell the difference but asthetically, I like the look of it without the cover.

You'll get better tone with the cover off, but only if you bury it at midnight under a full moon. Worked for me.
