Couldn't really find a proper home for this post so I'll post here.

What is your current favorite pick to use with your strat?

I really like the Herco Gold Nylon Flex 50.

Hello Stratoholic,

I've been using Fender white extra heavys forever,
but I'm always trying new ones out. Just keeping things
interesting, not necessarly looking for the Holy Grail of picks.
I'm gonna try out those V-picks that Chet likes.

Cheers.

Fender 351's Medium. Abalone, Ocean Turquoise, or some sort of Moto.

Dunlop Tortex .73mm

I like them, there grippy and they take a long time to wear down. The fender mediums are nice too, but I would always wear them down so fast.

Fender 351 premium celluloid (motos). I use heavy (blue), medium (green), and light (red) depending on what guitar and tune I'm trying to play. The strat seems to like mediums the best while the SG seems to usually want the heavies. The other guitars don't seem as particular. I use the color code so I can grab what I need if I drop or break one.

I use a lot of different stuff--mostly I like thick picks and a normal or slightly sharp point.

But here's a breakdown-
Bass & Classical-fingers--no pick
12 string-Dunlop Teckpick (aluminum)
Electric-1.14 Tortex or Gator Grip--but I also like Brian picks.

For some occasions I pull out a Stash double pick or a wicked pick.

I used to use agate picks.

I use stone plectrums (Brazilia - out-of-business unfortunately) on all guitars (sans finger picking, duh). The wear factor here is like a thousand years so a few of them will last me a lifetime. I do not like flimsy strummin' plectrums - not for shredding and you'll need a hundred of them a year. :)

Metal plectrums are interesting (tried them on several occasions) but they stick and contribute to string breakage (for my style of playing anyway).

As you can see, my main properties for a plectrum are 'smoothness' and 'solidity'. When I pick, I don't want bendiness and I definitely don't want stickiness. These stone plectrums are heaven on Earth for this - fast, smooth, solid. To each his own, but I'm stickin' with my stones. ;P

Dunlop Tortex .71mm - they have a sort of.. sandy texture to them, but not sandy enough to wear into the strings or g'tar. You can get them as standard plastic ones too - I have about 40 pink ones :)

The stone sounds really interesting - I had some really thick Furlinettos (Canadian custome bass luthier) and really liked them. I'll try them on the guitar.

I have been changing picks a bit recently, but I am currently playing with JD Gators's 1.14. Mainly like the feel and tone I get from them.

as far as being durable and smooth, i have to agree with the dunlop tortex. however, i really just go for cheap picks with cool designs on them. give me skulls, aliens, playboy bunnies, crosses.... stuff like that. i dont care if i burn through a pick in one night, they cost like 15 cents. might as well have some fun with them.
