normaly if the bridge it set to float properly it will have good response but generally as u said, the response from a locked down bridge may be better, but this also depends on the wood and the bridge material, some guitars respond well with the bridge floating and others with the bridge locked down...

i found that on my sig strat the response is best with the bridge floating and on my squier it sounds the best with the bridge locked down... i assume its because of the lesser quality wood in the squier...

I have a MIJ '68 reissue , sunburst with a maple capped neck, which I had refinished with dunlop medium frets and a gloss nitro laquer.
I found out after I scewed the neck back on, that the laquer takes quite a few weeks to set hard and it feels like it "glued" itself to the body neck socket and is almost like a set neck now. I've never had sustain like it from any Strat I've played ( I have my bridge floating)
Even unplugged, it's like a semi acoustic, it just resounds for ages
