I'm too lazy to look up on the forum, but I just put a used Highway 1 Strat on layaway. It's an older model with the pre-CBS headstock. I've read a few things about these and was wondering if anyone can confirm these internet rumors I found...

Neck's are MIA Standard Necks
Body, Pickups, and Hardware are MIM Standard, not MIA
Finish is not Nitro, but Acrylic

It's going to need some new plastic as a teenager decided to "decorate" the pickguard and knobs...

I did look up some info on the forum and there was conflicting information. A friend still has the case candy for his, only thing worth noting is Fender does not provide warranty coverage for the finish. However, I read that some years the guitar was Nitro, others it was Acrylic. Then there is the issue of the neck being an American Standard mounted on a Mexican Body with Mexican hardware and pickups. So asking if anyone has actually measured the tremolo screws to see if they are in fact MIM or MIA specs. Is the block a full steel block or the thinner cheaper MIM blocks? Are the pickups MIM Standard or the Reissue pickups found on 60's or 70's reissues.... So yes I was a bit lazy, but when you consider there are thousands upon thousands of posts on here, searching for specific data is near impossible...

If you are truly lazy, the easiest and probably the best thing to do would be to ask Fender about the details. I am even too lazy/impatient to email, so I call them.

As soon as I have a serial number, I will. At the moment, I don't have it. Fender is generally vague when no S/N is included...

Good deal, just don't show them the pictures, they might puke after seeing the pick guard.

BTW, are you using a Canon camera? I have one, Powershot A2200 HD, takes great pics, and the date stamp looks the same as on mine. :?:

That's the picture from Guitar Center. I have yet to actually see the guitar. All I know is neck is in good shape and little fretwear which is all I care about....

Here is all I know about the pre-2006 Highway 1 Strats. It sports a low gloss satin lacquer finish. It has 3 classic Fender single coils pickups. It also comes with the 6 point tremolo. I can tell you that the body and neck are indeed made in the USA. As far as electonics, your guess is as good as mine as far as where they are made. If the tremolo is the same as the newer Highway 1's it is indeed the same type Fender uses on their made in Mexico lines. My 2007 did come with a huge block in the tremolo for more sustain. I cannot say the same is true for the pre2006 models. I do know there was some members that have the pre-2006 Highway 1 guitars and I have heard nothing but stellar reviews on them.

Personally I would love to get a hold of a pre-2006 Highway 1. I love the paint job that they have. A standard 11 hole pick guard should fit on that body without having to make new holes.

Sent an email to Fender requesting more specific data. I finally got the S/N, Z3086489 which I believe is a 2003, so its certainly MIA....
