I've got a Fender Standard MIM Brown Sunburst Strat and I put a tortise shell pickguard on it. I am going for the reliced look. I heard somewhere that mexi strats don't wear as nice as American strats. is this true or not. thanks!

Makes no difference, what does make a difference is polyurethane and nitrocellulose finishes. But that's another thing all together..

the reason that they dont wear is because, like the above poster stated, all mexican strats have poly finishes. These finishes do not wear down out of normal circumstances. Nitro finishes will wear nicely, but fender doesn't offer many production models with nitro.

well the bodies on mexican strats are polyester and not polyurethane like american standards. also the majority of fender nitro guitars are not completely nitro, atleast not in the sense of the old fenders were. actually alot of the old custom colors from what i have read were acrylic based.

so what im saying is that just because something says nitro, that really doesnt mean anything. you want a paint that will wear even and fade gradually into the wood for a true time worn look. i dont know about polyester but i would suppose you could with a belt sander and very fine wet/dry sandpaper. but to me this would be just a big lie, i mean polyester is never gonna wear like that period in real life. well i think so atleast, for some reason my squier is wearing like that well not to the wood yet but i bet its polyester or something.. kinda ironic huh?
