Hey, I'm thinking of buying a new fender when I hit the states next year (Live in Australia). I wanna get a new guitar but can't decide between a Strat and a Tele? Any advice? Which one? :)

Get one of these: http://www.fender.com/en-AU/products/se ... 0142002300

The Strat you have when you're playing a Tele... or the Tele you have when you're playing a Strat.

Except that it won't sound like either a Strat or a Tele.

To the OP: either before you leave or when you get here, go to a good music store and play several Teles and several Strats and draw your own conclusions. The sounds and feel of the two guitars are different enough that any advice provided here is clouded by personal preference.

Me? I own one of each (52 RI Tele and modified MIM Standard Strat), plus an Esquire-type that I built from a Squier Affinity Tele. All three sound and play very differently from each other.

Two different animals; only you can decide which one works the best for you. I love Telecasters and plan to get one in the near future, but for my money the Strat is the greatest invention of the 20th Century.

Try out both and see which one speaks to you.

I own them both and there is a reason why. I love them both, but I find Strats to be more versitile.

My advice is to play a lot of different guitars and find the one that speaks to you.

Yeah in all seriousness they ARE completely different animals and thats without even looking at the different models of each.

Years ago I started with a Strat. Then sold it when I thought I'd stopped playing. When I got back into playing I bought a Tele as I'd always wanted one. A year later I also got myself a Strat because as much as I loved the Tele, I missed the qualities of the Strat.

So as others have said, play each and if you cant afford (or don't want to) get both, then make the tough decision based on what YOU feel.

Cheers and good luck.

May not sound particularly like a strat or tele. But that doesn't mean it sounds great :D . Very good guitar, I would recommend it here, because of its versatility-if you've got to have one guitar, it's a good choice.
