I have a '68 reissue SSS Stratocaster body I am refinishing and bought a Fender vintage tremolo bridge that was supposed to be for American reissue bodies, but the holes are spaced just slightly wider than the holes in the body. The body measures 2.218 center-to-center across the outside holes (or 2 7/32”) and the trem measures 2.238. Did I perhaps get a trem for an off-shore model instead of a US model? I know the Mex standard spacing is 2 1/16” so are there three legitimate spacings in vintage trems?

BTW, the body has markings in the neck pocket with a red S in a red circle and what looks like the number 671 above it in black, all about 1/4 “ high. There is another set of smaller numbers toward the open side of the pocket, but I can’t make them out. Anyone know if these are correct for a “68 reissue American SSS body?
