Hi!

I'm thinking about getting a strat for myself! And i found this one on polish auction site :

http://allegro.pl/fender-stratocaster-a ... 77478.html

I would be grateful if somebody could tell me is this one OK ?
The seller has changed the bridge and tuners - optional is the dimarzio humb, and black or white pickguard.

cheers!
bartek

i've checked the serial number and it says 95-96 year so that is correct.

I'm not crazy about the bridge, but the rest of the guitar looks fine.

Hi ty webb,

Considering the changes already mentioned, the other details look correct for a 95 to 96 American Standard, particularly the neck, but not sure about the body. With the rib relief being black, and the appearance of "one piece" body on the front, usually indicates a laminated body, not typically Am Std. And the extra plate on the back, possibly for a battery, wasn't on the Am Std, it could have been added, or maybe this isn't an Am Std body.

I am certainly not an expert, hopefully others will check it out also. I nearly always lean to the skeptical side if any part doesn't seem quite right to me. Otherwise this appears to be a nice guitar, and might very well be a good player.

The bridge is a Wilkinson VS100. It's a matter of taste, but it is a very fine unit, favoured by many boutique builders, such as James Tyler amongst others. I've used several VS100s: excellent.

Aside from that, it's an American Strat neck on a Mexican body - a complete partsocaster. The mixture of gold and silver hardware is open to discussion; more seriously the tuners are clearly a mod and the bottom E machinehead has been installed crooked. Not keen on that and it is hard (not impossible) to put right, though they're good quality Schaller machines.

The price converts to about £500 / $780. That's beyond the top end for what I'd pay for a guitar of this sort - but if you like it I see nothing fundamental against the purchase.

Cheers - C

Hi ty webb: I think it's a wise choice.

Now I look at the machines again I don't think they are Schallers after all, not with that screw tag on the side. But I can't match them to any I know of, so that's a mystery...

However, I don't think the parts this guitar are made from are worth the total price being asked. You could build this guitar yourself from parts bought on Ebay for less money.

Out of curiosity, I wonder what the average price for a second-hand Fender is in Poland?

Anyhow, good luck - C

For what i have seen, the american std are starting from 880 $, japanese are about 450$ and mexicans let's say 340$ and less ( all used ).

It is first time in 9 years that i don't have a guitar at home and i'm just starting to get very angry and disappointed with what i could get right now.

I was testing today some old squier MIJ but it didn't play very well imo.

Haha - you certainly are coming up with some problematic Strats, ty webb! :D

The serial number says it's a Japanese Fender from 1992-93. But someone with more expertise than me is going to have to comment on whether all the parts of that headstock decal belong together. I though Silver Series meant a Japanese Squier, but I stand to be educated on that.

You need to tell us the price on this Strat. The synth pickup next to the bridge is potentially an expensive item - if it is a feature you want. If you don't want that pickup, then it is just a nuisance that is not worth paying for.

Price, please.

Cheers - C

Oh sorry i forgot! for this one seller wants about 500$, the black "thing" :D was a midi pickup, and now it is gone, there is missing some plastick in a pickguard. and the changed pickup in the bridge position is a dimarzio but i don't know which one exactly.

Yeah there wouldn't be a problem if i had money for a new one ; ) but that's too much for me right now, so i keep looking for some used ones. For this moment in very unfortunate way.

We're back talking about the first guitar now, are we?

That's curious: it suggests the American Std neck belongs with body after all. Yet the way the tummy contour is painted implies that the body is a MIM, with a multi-piece body covered with thin veneers front and back.

Now we need one of the '90s Strat experts to tell us whether American bodies were sometimes made that way too? These photos make it look that way, so that's interesting.

I still think the price is high for such a heavily modded guitar, though. (And I don't like those badly installed tuners.) I think you could assemble a Strat from parts of your own choice bought on Ebay for the same or less money.

My suggestion: keep searching.

Cheers - C
