Hey everyone so I'm having a problem finding a good tone with my equipment. I have a mexi strat and a hot rod deluxe. I bought the amp used and know that i need to get the tubes replaced, but my main concert is trying to find a "fatter" tone. I am coming out sounding very bright and brittle, even when I mess around with the eq's I just sound either too low or bright and brittle.
I am looking for a Hendrix/SRV/Mayer/Trey Anastasio (I know this is impossible, but just to give you an idea) type of tone. I am wondering where I should start with this. I own a modified, by whom I am uncertain, Boss DS-1 pedal, a phaser, and a regular vox wah pedal. I am thinkig about getting a keeley bd-2, new tubes, and a new speaker next. But sometimes I think I should start with the pickups then the speaker though? I'm opened to all ideas! Thanks a ton!!!

Cheers,
Lambo

Welcome to the Forum.

I would start by making a pickup height adjustment. Do a search for the "Nickel Method" here on the Forum.
