Always lookin to get my hands on another guitar...Currently, I have 4 strats (have had more in the past). I've got 2 with humbuckers, and 2 with single coils. Found a great deal on a mint 2010 Candy Apple Red Blacktop Strat with a rosewood fretboard...$335 shipped. Not a bad deal, I think. My first thought is that it would make a great project platform. Maybe some Gibson 57 Classic Plus humbuckers, 3-way switching, upgrade the trem block, and go with some graphtech saddles. Then, I realized that's almost a duplicate of my 95 MIM strat, but with a 57 classic in the neck and an SD JB in the bridge.

Well, last night I dropped by guitar center to play a Blacktop before I pulled the trigger on the used one I'm interested in, and realized that it plays pretty darned sweet, and I see no need to swap out the pickups. Definetly needs a tone knob removed and the volume knob re-positioned, as well as graphtech saddles.

I'm wondering if I should try something new, instead of another humbucker strat. I can't think of what, though. I don't want to pass up this deal...$335 seems like a steal...but I know I don't really need it...I just want it. I'm wondering if I should get it, hold on to it for awhile, then unload it if I decide I don't play it as much as I should.

Thoughts?

I think the Blacktop is a great platform guitar for a project. Love to see pics when you get it the way you want. I am in the middle of re-purchasing one for my own project.
