Not sure why I can't find the topic in which Martian describes building the Fratocaster... Anyone know the title of that topic? Thanks..

Hi oldguy. Yer 'tis:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=45290

"From humble beginnings, the ultimate Strat shall be born!"

Though you may have to ask the Great Man to reinstate some of his photos, which currently seem to be missing...

Cheers - C

Thanks, Ceri. The "Fratocaster" pickups (SD SSL-2, SSL-6 and SSL-3) for my project arrived so I wanted to review the Fratocaster build...

I'm flattered!

SSL-2 = neck
SSL-6 = middle
SSL-3 = bridge

Yes, that's a Fender Superswitch.

Martian, in regard to the wiring diagram, do you use linear pots for the tone controls? I picked up "standard" Fender-packaged CTS pots and, based on the specs, it looks like the "standard" pots are audio taper...

FYI -- Through careful shopping, I managed to get the 3 pickups for a total of $101... I might call mine the Budgetcaster...

Audio pots across the board.

$30 and change per pickup is a nice price! On the other hand though, if you do call it, "Budgetcaster", I'd keep that name to myself as others might automatically presume it to mean a sub-par instrument (IMO, of course).

+1

"Econo-caster" has a nicer ring to it.

Yeah, "Econocaster" does sound better.. Total outlay will be about $630 -- FSR Sunfire Orange Strat, aged white pearl pickguard (unless I change my mind), SSS configuration with the SD pickups mentioned above... And, I'll still have the original HSS pickguard intact for future use...

Or certain other makers might call it the "studio" model...
