Bumping along....
So the Tele body is routed out for all 3 TS pups.
The neck pocket is routed and done... This was the most anxious part of the set up, get this wrong and it becomes a piece of kindling for the wood stove...
All the control holes have been drilled.

Next is routing out for the rear control cavities and for the individual pup back plates.. ( On this one I will leave a bit of suspense and see if anyone can guess what the layout is on the pups rear covers... )

I found a 4 holed neck plate, but one that is offset so that there will be a contoured neck heel. These are practically nonexistent in gold so finding one was just a moment of luck..

I have ordered a spray gun and will be spraying clear lacquer on actually both Tele's and the figured Maple Strat body... The ash bodies will be refvealed in due time...

Again i apologize on not being able to upload pics but hopefully soon...

OK I have returned... not sure about the new format, will take some adjustment on my part. Some work has been completed since my last ( it's been a year.... Yikes !!! ) update. Will need to upload more recent photos and all.

Stay tuned I may post again next year. Much to review as I have not done much of anything on any guitar project ( except Aiden's for last christmas )

I lied... It's still 2014. So the next pics is where I left off. I must add that for over a year I have tried to locate the F style tuners in Gold. Impossible to acquire so I am going with the Grover's that are I believe pictured in preceding pages.

OK so there is where it stands, No it doesn't have a name, it's just a guitar. The parts are on as a dry fit as I will not be using Straplock but instead Grover or Schallers system. Much much better quality and ruggedness.
I have a new template or I should say a sheet full of new templates ready to cut out. It's perfect way to spend New Year's Eve. I found that my original neck pocket was offline by a couple millimeters so I grafted in a new piece and will route to the correct layout. I will dare someone to notice the difference once the body is complete and ready for finish.... Not tomorrow.

Just for an idea as to where I'm heading in these double builds, the following pics are the inspiration.
The first two are from Fender's wallpaper downloads, the third is my latest acquisition.
An Aerodyne Strat.

As can be guessed I really like the carved top look and even more so the feel of a carved top Strat and Tele...
That gloss black Tele give me chills wow!!

Thanks j.4knee, Happy New Year.
It's been a while but it was best to shelve the guitar building for a while.
I spent tonight going over the layout, recalculating and looking thru the stash of Walnut for pickup covers and all the other details. Since the wiring for all three pups is hidden thru the cavities it was critical that I remembered how I had intended to proceed. It doesn't seem clear to anyone but as I unveil the following steps it will.
Texas Specials pups come in white covers and the black covers I wanted to use needed to be trimmed and sanded down as their base thickness was 1mm too thick. That was part of tonight's process.

Sorry to all who were following then blip !!
Life took precedence and I needed to focus which didn't leave much time for building guitars. I foolishly tried to rush one small phase and it almost proved disastrous.
I intend to have this prototype assessed by a couple of regional pro players which means it will have to be right the first time it is picked up. One was with the Schemers, the other has played with Roomful of Blues. Neither are slouches, I can assess it myself but I don't see myself in a band situation any time soon. Work and 5 day classes for the next 2 to 3 years dictate my timelines...

This is where I'm @ with the Tele.
Registration marks done and the layout is as pictured. Might just have to work a 1/2 day today and get in the shop and route out neck pocket, pup cavities front and back/rear and rear electronic cavity. It is after all 2015 and I'm enjoying oatmeal and coffee while updating.

Yesterday's progress was to smooth out the templates pup cavities. MDF is the template material in 1/4"- 2'x4' sheets. I can get 5 full Strat and/or Tele templates out of each sheet. Plus a couple smaller templates for just bridge cavities.

Image

Next was to route out the pups cavity to final depth, recess and front lip.
I also cleaned up the neck pocket and routed that to final shape.
Here's what template on body should look like.

Image

Keep in mind that not having cut my new front template I used this template which is actually the rear route template but the neck pocket cavity is the correct size. Why this looks odd on the front of the guitar

This is what the final routed cavities should be like. The 1st pic is from the rear loaded perspective. Each pup cavity will have it's own black walnut cover, routing out the recess lip is still to be completed. The pencil lines are the recessed contours.
The neck plate area will be reshaped as well as the body's final contours ( on that note I'm still debating wether I will round out the top edge as a Bullnose, Ogee or just the simple traditional half round ) .

Image

Front view of cleaned up, lightly sanded body. Still have to drill out the bridge/string ferrules etc.. As well as the control cavities. There is still much work to be done as far a cutting, shaping, routing and final prep before even thinking of the final clear coat application process.

Image

This is what the final look will be when the case is opened and the Telepartster I is ready to be played 1st time. Still quite a bit of time ( weeks actually ) before that happens. I anticipate that this time of year curing the lacquer finish will take a couple weeks.

This is the next phase. (1) cutting the template shapes for the control cavity, the bridge ferrules and the rest of the recessed covers.

Time to attend to less fun obligations.
