Yes...alas....it is an incurable affliction.
Ironically I showed Mark Cutler the Tele ( ala Burton ) body and the response was...Ohh..
I'll have to check it out when it is ready....

The last time after completing Stratopartster I , I handed it to him as I wanted a critique from a professional musician....I didn't see it again for Two months.....he just said he kept forgetting to bring it and really liked it......

Thanks....As far as Warmoth i have looked at their necks but I think I will go with http://www.bhefner.com for a couple of necks as they are less expensive but also licensed by Fender
Check them out it's worth the comparisons......

Quick temporary update.....

As far as the Tele is concerned, all the parts are in, pups, Vol and TBX, 5 way, jack.
I have however decided to not go with the Grover Deluxe Tuners, these will go on the Stratopartster. Instead I ordered yesterday a set of Fender vintage 70's tuners, these are slanted design and are specific to the Tele Custom Deluxe of the 70's...
This also is a direct drop in with no refill of holes which is next to impossible to render invisible.

I also need to order a back plate from one of the online engravers...

With working 6am to 6pm everyday and a 2 hour commute, my guitar building has slowed to a crawl....

That hasn't always been the case, if I remember correctly - so that is also kinda good ...?

No....I have put my own high end historic renovations business on Moth balls and am currently working in a shop. No dealing and stressing with customers and the myriad of details that must be attended to....I just have to show up to work everyday.

For those wishing for their own business and the myth that you will manage time to your own timeline, be careful what you wish for....

Anyway, I will update as soon as possible as these next two weeks I'm also car shopping.....Deciding is more appropriate as I have already made my choices and it is within 4 possibilities but from separate dealerships....As to who gives me the best trade in return for my 03 Ford Ranger FX4 which I no longer need..... 8) 8)

Hi 53: haven't been around the Forum much recently and seem to have been missing this thread. Just been putting that right by doing a big read through from start to finish and now I'm up to date. Wow. It's like watching a guy juggling three chainsaws with the motors running! Respect.

Itching to see some edge contours arrive on those bods - especially keen to see how you go about the belly cut.

Quick question: what size router cutter did you use for the neck pocket, please?

BTW: I notice on page three you wrote:

Hi Ceri....

I think I'll skip on the chainsaw attempts... Sounds potentially messy...
As to your router question, it was just a 1/4 inch shaft, 3/4 " blade with the bearing above the cutters....
That small Bosch router I use is just perfect for guitar bodies, small, lightweight and you can see what you are doing......
I really have to make some time to get back on this ( these ) projects especially since all the parts are in except, the plate and tuners.... I also have to go and get some wood inserts and stainless steel fine thread screws to replace the conventional setup...

Will update soon.....

Salut.....

I could not agree more. Last year I got myself I think exactly the same model Bosch palm router you have. For doing things like necks, headstocks and such it is so much easier to work with than the big two-handed router. Here's mine:

That the same one as yours? A neat little tool!

Anyway. Keep up the good work! :D

^^ Yes It is .....

Have not done anything since I have been waiting for a set of Fender tuners for the Tele neck that were backordered twice.... Still do not have them, need to look for an alternative source...
On another note I need the use of the shop's ( where I work to sand down the bodies ) commercial machines to sand to thickness the FM Strat body and the FW Tele body..

In the meantime I have been playing with this.......

Bumping...Still awaiting the Backordered " F " style tuners in Gold for the build.
If anyone knows where to find these elusive unicorns ...Please let me know...

It is winter and all my guitar build work is about painting and refinishing so until the weather or most importantly the humidity factor returns. All is on hold ....Temporarily...

New Bump .....
It is time finally to put all the pieces together.
1st .... Is to lay out all the parts and decide on where and what cuts / routs will be needed.
This should take a bit of time and I will post a pic later once all is on the table...

I'm back ....
Well Ceri as you can imagine it took me a while to find all the parts that comprise the Telepartster, spread out between 4 work shop cases and a couple other plastic bins it was time to put everything together and take stock of what is still needed...

1st ... Pic and the most important since this will determine the Tone ....
Single Coils Texas Specials, RW / RP. I'm actually looking forward to the quiet of RW's / RP's.

Image

Simple layout really, I have however debated with Two or only One TBX Tone Pot. Final is we're going for Two, since I more often play in a Bridge / Middle pup selection ..... I have often found that the bridge requires some modulation for a better Tone mix. That is just not possible with only One Tone Pot.

Image

Here's some of the hardware, AMB ( thru body string ) Bridge, Vol. and Tone Controls, the Vol. control is slightly larger in overall diameter than the two Tone knobs which was an unexpected but cool result.... Yes ..... That is a stereo Cable plug in, I wanted this plug as it fits my application. It will be recessed in the body much like on an Ibanez but aimed so that the cord is in direction of the rear strap plug.

Those are the Texas Specials ... I switched the covers from White to Black, but these pups will be a bit of a challenge to install and I'll go over that in the next post.
As for the Stainless steel screws and wood inserts on the left, I will retain the neck angle adjustment, but will have to find a custom plate as I hope to also contour the heel.

BTW ... If anyone has a suggestion as to locating the custom made plate, Please Chime In.
And Yes it will be Four screws not Three as I prefer the stability of Four.

Image

Going with Two String Tree's as it is what it is ......
And I have located the F style tuners I wanted but in Gold.... 8) Just have to order them ..

Image

Top of the pic is my Pup Template, will work on that over the next few days, I still need to slightly contour the back of the neck pocket to exactly match the curvature of the neck.

Image

This covers this update ....
My apologies to those who have followed and patiently waited ..... It's just that life gets in the way of the Hobbies sometimes ..... :?

So to recap the above....
First will be to finish cutting the Neck Pocket.
Next will be laying out the neck and measuring where exactly the Bridge will be recessed in.
Then laying the Pups location, routing out the holes  I have an idea on how to mount them and will go hit the hardware store this Saturday...
Next will be positioning the controls, slightly Strat. like but I will adjust to my preferences.
Then will the Cable Plug be layed out and bored out with a Forstner Bit....
( I recommend a set to anyone doing any kind of hole boring on a guitar... Much more accurate and a much cleaner hole than any drill bit would provide. )

After all the Controls / Pups / Neck and body are ready for assembly, then the next step is figuring out where the back cover plates will be .... These are going to be made from 1/8th" Walnut blanks which I have already made to rough thickness and need to be shaped ..

After all this than I can start contouring the body ( like a Strat 50's or 60's ) then the top will be carved ......

Quite a bit of work yet before I can even think of applying any finish .....

Just as a side note , I still have the Stratopartster Body in Figured Maple awaiting....
As well as I cut Three Ash Stratocaster body blanks. They are waiting for the future projects ..
